Catharine Arnston | The most significant nutrient missing from your keto diet KKP: 241

Catharine Arnston | The most significant nutrient missing from your keto diet KKP: 241

Today, I am blessed to have here with me the Founder and CEO of ENERGYbits, Catharine Arnston. Catharine started ENERGYbits after her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would help her heal. Catharine immediately sprung into action to help her sister research alkaline foods and in the process she discovered algae. When Catharine learned that algae was the most alkaline, plant-based, nutrient-dense food in the world and had been used for fifty years in Asia to improve health and longevity, she knew she had discovered something big (and yes, her sister fully recovered - thanks for asking). As Catharine dug into the science of algae, she learned it had 64% protein, 40 vitamins/minerals and was endorsed by the United Nations and NASA as the most nutrient dense food in the world. She also discovered there were 100,000 studies documenting its long list of benefits and it was the most sustainable, eco-friendly food crop in the world. And yet algae remained virtually unknown outside of Asia. How could this be possible? Catharine knew algae could be a game changer for our health, our children and our world if she could only convince people it wasn't weird. And so ENERGYbits was born. It took Catharine ten years to bring algae into the mainstream and build ENERGYbits into a national company. We're glad she finally did, because now you and your family can benefit from our naturally grown, toxin-free, Non-GMO algae tablets too. A handful will help satisfy your hunger, help give you steady energy, and help ensure your nutritional needs are met. All this from a food that has one ingredient, no chemicals, caffeine, sugar or processing and is the most sustainable, safe, eco-friendly, crop in the world - algae. Your body and Mother Earth say thank you. And we do too. In this episode, Catharine Arnston reveals the inspiration behind her algae research. After her sister's battle with breast cancer, Catharine knew she needed to get her message about the power of algae out and into the world. Algae has so many robust benefits, especially for people on the ketogenic or carnivore diet. Today is all about microalgae – it's called that because it's microscopic, 100 cells of microalgae could fit on the head of a pin. We talk about the differences between spirulina and chlorella. Plus, we dive into the importance of K2, omega-3, and why you need to ditch that fish oil. / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. About 12 years ago, her younger sister developed breast cancer. Her oncologist in Canada said to change her diet to an alkaline diet because it would help with her healing. An alkaline diet is primarily a plant-based diet because of the phytonutrients in the chlorophyll – it has been proven to build your immune system. Alkaline is also very beneficial for anyone on a carnivore or keto diet. Algae is the most alkaline food globally; it's also the most nutrient-dense food in the world. One gram of algae has the same nutrition as 1,000 grams of fruits and vegetables. There are no anti-nutrients because algae is not technically a plant. It doesn't have any oxalates, phytates, or lectins. [09:45] The Importance of Supporting Our Body's Cells Using Algae You have microalgae and macroalgae. Today we're talking about microalgae – it’s called that because it's microscopic in size, something like 100 cells of microalgae could fit on the head of a pin. The two we're going to talk about are spirulina and chlorella. They are not toxic because they are harvested in freshwater. Spirulina was the first life on Earth about 4 billion years ago. If you put the spirulina in the water, you'll see this blue, beautiful blue color come out. While on the other hand, chlorella is just a green pigment. Well, chlorella is a fat-based pigment. Spirulina has been scientifically proven to intercept the Covid virus. Also, it’s very energizing and an organic source of iron. Plus, it will help avoid the keto flu because it doesn’t increase your glucose or decrease or ketones. You can stay in your intermittent fasting without hunger using spirulina. Chlorella has the most chlorophyll. If you're not eating greens, you're missing out on this really wonderful nutrient. It will heal your cell walls, and it's effectively building your blood. [24:10] The Reasons We Need Quality K2 In Our Diets K2 will pull out excess calcium from soft tissue. Almost everyone is deficient in K2 - that's exactly why heart disease started escalating. It can certainly help with your longevity and your appearance by pulling out all that excess calcium. [27:50] The Strong Benefits Of Chlorophyll For The Keto Lifestyle Chlorophyll is like your cleanup squad for absorbing extra free radicals. When you match chlorophyll with sunlight, it actually generates ATP. So effectively, you're recycling the neutron or the electron so that it can generate ATP. Overall, the hack here is to consume some chlorophyll in the form of a high-quality source and then get some red light therapy or go outside in the sun. [37:40] Let's Get Omega-3 From Algae Instead of Rotten Fish Oil The spirulina has more omega-3. So, if you're looking for brain health, that's the one you want for sure. You will absorb 99% of the omega-3 from algae rather than 5% from fish oil. The demand for fish oil is killing entire species of fish. In the oceans, we have dead zones. That won't happen with algae because it grows in freshwater, and you can grow it anywhere. Plus, fish oil goes rancid even before you buy it. Well, algae will never go bad. [42:20] The Most Significant Amount of Tryptophan Globally Is In Algae Catharine usually recommends taking the spirulina in the morning and then again in the afternoon before a workout. Take the chlorella any time of day, but definitely before you go to bed. Chlorella has the highest concentration of tryptophan. It helps you with sleeping. It won't make you sleepy, but it will just facilitate the sleep process. When you are sleeping, that is when your body goes through a detox and repair cycle. When you have chlorella in your body while you're sleeping, it will be able to facilitate that detox much better. Also, chlorella particularly will help with peristalsis and bowel movements. 5 Hidden Sources Causing Inflammation (And What to do About Them!) - Ben Azadi: KKP 83

On this episode of the Keto Kamp Podcast you will discover 5 hidden sources of inflammation.   If you'd like health coaching from Ben Azadi, join the Keto Kamp Academy today: http://www.ketokampacademy.com   // O V E R V I E W   1: Eating right before bed   When you consume calories, you are converting those calories to energy. The metabolism thats required to do that generates something called reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS creates free radicals that are damaging to your cells and your mitochondrial DNA, which are then transferred to your nuclear DNA. Your body ages from the damaging aspects of excessive ROS. Eat before bed = age faster. Your energy consumption drops dramatically when you are sleeping. This tends to expand the production of ROS when you don't use the energy. Higher amounts of ROS = cellular damage. This can damage your tissue, your cell membrane, which is the bodyguard of your cell. Additionally, when your body has to digest food during sleep; it takes energy away from recover repair and fat burning and diverts it to digesting food. It takes massive amounts of resources and blood flow to digest food. The first 4 hours of sleep are the most crucial when it comes to getting the most important stage. This is called money time sleep window. 98% of fat burning takes place during stage 4 sleep. This is why I recommend fasting at least 3 hours before bed. Your future self with thank you for it. 🙏   2: Snacking in between meals   The average person eats 17-21 time per day Insulin is the bully of the block     3: Sitting down too much   Sitting is the new smoking Movement over exercise Walking is underrated      4: Being zapped by EMF’s   Turn off wifi before bed Put phone on airplane mode Practice grounding Check out Nicholas Pinealts book     5: Hating yourself    Love and gratitude are two of the biggest healers Stress weight gain and cortisol    // R E S O U R C E S   ➡️Check out this keto beginners kit: http://www.ketokampkit.com   💊Systemic formulas D digest link: http://bit.ly/2Iy9leA   ➡️Keto Mojo link: http://bit.ly/2KJSGHX   💊Systemic Formulas BIND: http://bit.ly/2XPQCSl   👇Low Carb | Keto Events to Attend:   ➡️I will be speaking at LowCarb USA: http://www.lowcarbusa.org, use the coupon code KETOKAMP for $100 off   ➡️PaleoFX. Dr Will Cole | Which Foods Cause Inflammation? Tips For Reducing Inflammation In The Body: KKP 82

Dr Will Cole | Which Foods Cause Inflammation? Tips For Reducing Inflammation In The Body: KKP 82

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 82 with Dr. Will Cole   Today, have here with me, Dr. Will Cole, senior clinic director; he is uniquely skilled and experienced at finding the root physiological, biochemical, and hormonal causes underlying many diseases.   Dr. Cole has broken free from the limiting approach of “standard care,” which most often calls upon drugs and hormones as a first defense against these diseases without a real inspection as to the underlying root causes and contributing factors to each individual’s presenting complaints.   Dr. Cole, leading a functional-medicine expert, consults people around the world via webcam and locally in Pittsburgh. He specializes in clinically investigating underlying factors of chronic disease and customizing health programs for thyroid issues, autoimmune conditions, hormonal dysfunctions, digestive disorders, and brain problems.   Dr. Cole was named one of the top 50 functional-medicine and integrative doctors in the nation and is a health expert and course instructor for the world’s largest wellness brands such as mindbodygreen and goop.   In this episode, Dr. Cole opens the show explaining the problem behind inflammation and the connection between our mental health and physical health. Then, Dr. Cole describes the problems with inflammation in our cells and reveals the worst inflammation habits, including sitting, screen time, and lack of purpose. Stay tuned to hear about foods to cut for preventing inflammation and the top labs your local doctor can do.   [01:30] Why Inflammation is a Problem Find out what your body loves so you can find food peace. Inflammation is a product of our immune system. It heals wounds and is essential for human existence. When inflammation is thrown out of balance, it becomes linked to every health problem under the sun. Inflammation is even seen in the mental health space. Research is looking at how inflammation is changing how our brain works. “Mental health is physical health.” -Dr. Will Cole   [04:30] Eating Less and Moving More with Inflammation There may be some weight loss, but they will not see sustainable results. Weight gain and weight-loss resistance will occur with inflammation. You have to deal with the underlying cause of weight-loss resistance. People are spending their lives in a vicious cycle of fad diets. People do not understand what the underlying issues are.   [06:45] Problems with Inflammation Around Our Cells We are made up of cells. If we have cellular inflammation, then the person is inflamed. Hormones are the language of our bodies. If the cells are resistant, then there is no body talk.   [10:30] Moving Beyond Limitation Avoid The Core Four: Grains Added Sugar Canola and Vegetable Oil Dairy The Eliminate Track: Nightshades Eggs Nuts and Seeds Legumes Find out what your body loves and find out what your body hates. There are different plans in the book based on The Inflammation Spectrum. When you reduce inflammation, you will feel better.   [14:00] It Differs From an Elimination Diet   An elimination diet is a gold standard for health and wellness. Cole is not a fan of food sensitivity labs. You have to deal with the gut that is reacting to foods in the first place. People will design their whole diet based on their spit at seven in the morning. The book is all about learning how you feel. Whereas, an elimination diet is not properly formulated. Plus, there is not enough talk about reintroducing foods into your diet. The main difference is talking about nonfood things. The diet is not just about food. If you are immersed in FOMO and stress, it will impact your health.   [17:40] Inflammatory Habits Prolonged sitting Get moving. Studies show that sitting is the new smoking. Screen time Monkey mind Our culture is overstimulating. People are not centered or having present moments. Toxin exposure Cleaning products can be a toxin. People do not question what things we are putting on our bodies. Social media addiction Lack of purpose Change your situation or change your relationship with your situation. It’s not practical to quit your job.   [28:15] Dr. Cole’s Favorite Tool Cole’s favorite tool is active stillness that brings center and present moment. We have to get our heads and our hearts right. People need to treat themselves with the utmost respect. You can’t heal a body that you hate. Stress has a negative impact on our hormones.   [32:30] Top Labs for Inflammation You can get basic labs from your local doctor. Gut health tests can also indicate inflammation. There is a lot of gut centric inflammation going on for people. “You don’t want to hang your hat on one lab.” -Dr. Will Cole The lab reference range does not look at optimal health. You will need to look at the function range.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Listen to Ketotarian, Calming Inflammation, Why Conventional Medicine Fails – Dr. Will Cole: KKP 003 Get your Free Health Evaluation Listen to The Goopfellas Podcast Follow Dr. Will Cole Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Read ketotarian® Read The Inflammation Spectrum® Join the Keto Kamp Academy  WatchKeto Kamp on YouTube  $39 Bottle of Olive Oil for $1.00   Disclaimer: This podcast is for information purposes only. Dr Carrie Jones: Keto For Women, Dealing w/ Heavy Periods, How to Increase Morning Energy: KKP 78

Dr Carrie Jones: Keto For Women, Dealing w/ Heavy Periods, How to Increase Morning Energy: KKP 78

Welcome to the Keto Kamp Podcast Episode 78 with Dr. Carrie Jones   Today, I am lucky to have here with me, Dr. Carrie Jones, a functional medicine women's health and hormone doctor. Dr. Carrie Jones believes in the importance of both men and women understanding their hormones in a simplified manner so they can feel more empowered to take control of their health, especially when they are told everything is "normal." Still, they don't feel "normal."   Dr. Carrie is a Naturopathic Physician with a Master's in Public Health, having over 12 years in the field of functional and integrative medicine. As Adjunct Faculty for the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), she has taught courses in both Gynecology and Advanced Endocrinology.   Dr. Carrie has been the Medical Director for two large integrative clinics in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Carrie is currently the Medical Director for Precision Analytical, Inc, creators of the most cutting edge hormone test on the market, the DUTCH Test.   As a result, Dr. Carrie consults with the most fantastic health care practitioners all over the world on the hormone status of their patients, and lecture/teach/frequently write on the same topic. Understanding adrenal, thyroid, and sex hormones are complicated. Dr. Carrie's job is not to judge. Her job is to educate and empower.   In this episode, Dr. Carrie Jones speaks about common women's health issues. Lack of energy is a common complaint which could be due to a variety of issues. It is essential to get morning sunlight to combat the lack of energy. If you do not have access to sunlight, Dr. Carrie says to get a full-spectrum light. Then, Carrie explains the importance of healthy fats on our hormones. If women are not eating healthy fats, they stop ovulating, their skin breaks out, and their hair is in poor health. Later, Dr. Carrie advises on how to prevent constipation and heavy periods.   [00:45] About Dr. Carrie Jones Carrie always knew she wanted to get into the healthcare industry. In Portland, Dr. Carrie found naturopathic medicine. She learned all the naturopathic principles, diet, lifestyle, sleep, and risk-factor mitigation. Carrie uses a lot of herbal medication, essential oils, and acupuncture. She does not put herself in any specific box. There are a time and a place for surgery and antibiotics.   [05:25] The Most Common Problem With Women’s Health There are metabolic and hormonal problems. Most women’s issues will fall into one of these two categories. A majority of women complain about their energy. Dr. Carrie says there is a lot of reasons for low energy. It can be cortisol, B12, thyroid, poor sleep, etc. Dr. Carrie does a series of tests to determine what could be causing low energy.   [07:50] The Importance of Morning Sunlight Morning sunlight is light and day difference. Open your curtains. The sunshine in your eyes will wake up your brain. You have twenty to thirty minutes when you switch from unconscious to alertness. If you have overcast, it’s still okay. If it’s dark when you wake up, you will need a full-spectrum light. It will give you the sensation of being outside. Turn it on for ten minutes to a few hours. You want it within eye view – don’t just set it on the counter and walk away. When you are getting ready, set it on the bathroom counter.   [15:15] Teas for Adrenal Health and Morning Energy Licorice blends and other supportive herbs. Detox teas are typically a joke. However, many detox teas have nutritive and supportive supplements. Every morning, Dr. Carries drinks green tea. Jasmine green tea is her favorite. Midmorning, Dr. Carrie drinks macha tea.   [17:00] The Role Healthy Fats Play With Our Hormones   Cholesterol is the backbone of all our healthy hormones. If you don’t eat fat, a lot of things can happen to your body: You won’t ovulate, so you can’t get pregnant. Your skin will break out. Your hair will be too greasy or too dry. Fat will make hormones and increase cellular health. Athletes will often not have their periods. However, it is completely destroying their hormones. Which will also make it tough on the brain, skin, and hormones.   [21:35] Dr. Carrie’s Favorite Fats and Least Favorite Fats Carrie responds well to olive-oil, avocados, and fish oil. Bad fats are things like fried foods. Eating a basket of fries will not make you feel healthy. Avoid industrial seed oils. Do the best you can and take baby steps.   [25:00] About DUTCH (Dried Urine Test For Comprehensive Hormones) It’s a test in which you need to urinate on paper four or times a day. The test is handy because it will alter depending on your circadian rhythm. It will test your hormones and where your hormones are going. Our hormones have to go somewhere. We can be proactive when we learn our results from this test.   [31:40] Preventing Constipation Hydration is huge. Most people are underhydrated. Diet is also essential. We lack in fiber. Eat fiber and vegetables to move your stool. Everything can be done through diet and lifestyle changes. Get good sleep. When we are not sleeping well, we do not wake up repaired, and it slows our systems down.   [36:10] Eating the Keto Diet Without Restricting Hormones Hormones will tank out if women strictly eat keto. Women might not be doing the diet correctly. However, doing 100% keto will affect some women. Seven days before the cycle, progesterone should be the highest. People will need flexibility with the diet whose hormones are out of whack.   [41:50] Preventing Heavy Periods Heavy periods can happen because of low progesterone, iron deficiency, or low thyroid. A lot of women are not in tune with their cycle. Some women don’t know if they are releasing eggs. When we have enough progesterone, our bleeding is easy and straightforward. Some women have too much estrogen. This will result in heavy periods and lots of clots. Find out if you ovulate. Track temperatures and look at symptoms. If you want to ovulate, you need B vitamins.   [47:00] Post-Menopausal Women Once the ovaries are done, estrogen and progesterone get low. Be diligent about your stress response, self-care, and sleep cycle. Women will need to be more diligent post-menopause. If you have always had the same kind of diet, start changing up your diet.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Check out Carrie’s Website Follow Dr. Carrie Jones Twitter Instagram Find the DUTCH Test Follow the DUTCH Test Facebook Instagram Twitter LinkedIn Email info@dutchtest.com Call 503.687.2050 Join the Keto Kamp Academy  WatchKeto Kamp on YouTube  $39 Bottle of Olive Oil for $1.00 // F O L L O W ▸ instagram | @thebenazadi | http://bit.ly/2B1NXKW ▸ facebook | /thebenazadi | http://bit.ly/2BVvvW6 ▸ twitter | @thebenazadi http://bit.ly/2USE0so ▸ linkedin | http://bit.ly/2PNRh40 ▸ email | ben@ketokamp.com   Disclaimer: This podcast is for information purposes only.
