Unsettling the environment, like walking on the carpet or stirring up settled dust, can elevate the risk of exposure and reactions. - Individuals can exhibit diverse responses to environmental factors. Allergens may trigger severe reactions in some, while others may experience minimal effects. - The body's response to environmental factors, including allergens, may resemble an allergic reaction. For some, exposure can lead to chronic illnesses and autoimmune responses, while others may experience it as a form of stress. - Predicting the impact of environmental factors on health remains challenging. Factors such as an individual's detoxification capabilities, existing health conditions, and overall stress load contribute to the unpredictability of how people will be affected. [20:50] Insights on the Overlooked Dangers of Smoke Damage After Fires - Mike emphasizes that in the aftermath of a fire, the focus should not only be on visible fire damage but also on the significant impact of toxic smoke. - Even if the fire is miles away, the unseen damage caused by smoke can be extensive and pose serious health risks. - Cleaning smoke damage involves more than just surface cleaning. Soft materials such as carpets, books, and clothing can absorb smoke particles and remain contaminated even after cleaning attempts. - Mike highlights the difficulty in restoring these items effectively, requiring more drastic measures like discarding porous materials. - Even when the visible signs and smells are gone, harmful particles can linger in the air, affecting the health of individuals. [33:30] Mike Explores VOC Sensor Insights and Real-Life Hazards - Mike discusses the potential sources detected by a VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) sensor, emphasizing that it may pick up cooking particulate oils, especially from activities like using olive oil or off-gassing from pans. - Mike notes that the type of pan used in cooking can influence what the VOC sensor detects. Nonstick pans and cast iron pans, for example, may contribute different substances to the air, affecting the sensor's readings. This highlights the need to consider various factors when interpreting sensor data. - Mike shares a real-life incident where a friend's gas range was left on without the burner being on. The gas levels became dangerously high, leading to a potential hazard. This story underscores the importance of gas safety and the fact that people can become "nose blind" to such issues, reinforcing the need for reliable detectors. [41:00] The Vital Distinction Between Fresh Air and Clean Air in Indoor Spaces - Mike emphasizes the crucial difference between fresh air and clean air. Opening doors or windows may bring in fresh air, but it doesn't guarantee that the air is free from harmful particulates. Clean air, which is essential for health, requires effective filtration to remove pollutants. - Plus, Mike discusses the potential dangers of elevated carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in confined spaces, such as cars with recirculating air. In a short amount of time, CO2 levels can significantly increase, reaching levels that may lead to fatigue and discomfort. Proper ventilation is essential to maintain healthy indoor air quality. - The focus on energy efficiency in buildings, particularly sealing them for better insulation, can have unintended consequences for indoor air quality. While energy efficiency is practical, it may lead to inadequate ventilation, trapping pollutants indoors and causing discomfort and fatigue. - Mike suggests that many energy-efficient practices are at odds with maintaining good indoor air quality. Balancing both aspects is crucial for creating environments that are both energy-efficient and healthy. [45:00] The Nuances of Air Purification Metrics and Strategies - Mike challenges the conventional approach of using square footage as the sole metric for air purification needs. - He stresses that cubic volume, which considers ceiling height, is a more accurate measure. This nuanced perspective is crucial for understanding the actual air volume that needs to be addressed for effective purification. - Mike discusses the impact of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems on air purification. If an HVAC system is in place, the performance of air purifiers like Jaspr can be more effective in terms of air changes per hour. - Mike explains the dynamics of air cleaning in closed rooms with air purifiers like Jaspr. While the purifier can achieve high efficiency within the closed space, the overall impact on the entire house may be limited if the HVAC system is in use. Understanding these nuances is crucial for optimizing air purification strategies. [47:30] The Nuances of Effective Air Purification Strategies - Controlled environments, such as rooms with specific dimensions, can impact the effectiveness of air purifiers like Jaspr. - Drawing an analogy to water currents, Mike explains that air moves in predictable patterns within a home. Factors like temperature, humidity, pressure, and HVAC systems contribute to the establishment of air currents. - Mike recommends prioritizing air purification in spaces where people spend a significant amount of time, such as bedrooms and work areas. He notes that areas with high pollutant sources, like kitchens and living rooms, are essential to address. - Instead of focusing on square footage, Mike suggests thinking about the percentage improvement in air cleanliness. Achieving a 95% to 99% improvement in air quality in a specific space, taking into account factors like air exchange through HVAC units, is a meaningful goal. AND MUCH MORE! Fasting, Autophagy, mTor & Cancer | Reduce Your Cancer Risk by 95% – Ben Azadi: KKP 14

In this episode, we’ll talk all about autophagy. Here is an overview of this episode: The relationship between mTor & autophagy Which foods boost autophagy How to achieve autophagy via exercise Why bodybuilders die sooner than the average person Why you don't want too much autophagy Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com  YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  My Favorite Keto Coffee: http://www.ketokampcoffee.com 03:55 The definition of autophagy is 'Self Eating'. We are made up of trillions of cells; every day, 70 billion cells need to be recycled. Powerful refrigerator analogy on autophagy.  05:28 How not achieving autophagy leads to cancer and disease. Dr. Thomas Seyfried, who wrote the book Cancer As A Metabolic Disease, is quoted as saying "If you were to complete a 7 day water only fast you would reduce your risk of cancer by 95%". 06:10 When the body is fasted, this is an acute hormedic to the body. The body will use damaged cells, proteins, and mitochondria first! Powerful analogy on a ship going through the Atlantic ocean taking on water and sinking. 07:20 The relationship between mTor & autophagy (feast/famine), and why they can both be good for us or bad for us. Its all about how you use it. There's an art to this. Think of mTor as growth (anabolic), and autophagy as catabolic.  09:30 The human body is designed for feast/famine cycles, and when you can master this, your DNA and cells will thrive. We have 97% control over the expression of our genes. This is called epigenetics. Check out the work by Dr. Bruce Lipton: https://www.brucelipton.com/ 11:07 In order to rebuild we must tear down first. I give a great analogy I heard from Dr. Jason Fung about old kitchen counters. Relate this analogy to the process of autophagy.  11:44 When does autophagy start during a fast? It depends on the person, it ranged from 12 hours to 24 hours. A general answer is that most people should be getting autophagy at the 16 hour fasting mark. 12:30 Dr. Thomas Seyfried saw cancerous tumors shrink before his eyes when his patients achieved maximum autophagy during a block fast. Here is how you test for max autophagy; take your blood glucose, divide by 18, and compare to your blood ketones. If you have a 1:1 ratio or higher, you are in max autophagy. 14:47 Achieve 3x the autophagy with a dry fast. This is extreme so work with a health practitioner.  15:15 Exercise increases autophagy. So do these specific ingredients. Add them to your daily diet; coffee, olive oil, coconuts, green tea, turmeric, ginger, sulforaphane (broccoli sprouts), mushrooms. Keto For Cancer, Fasting & Autophagy, Busting Cancer Myths – Dr. Nasha Winters KKP 12

Keto For Cancer, Fasting & Autophagy, Busting Cancer Myths – Dr. Nasha Winters KKP 12

One out of every three Americans is diagnosed with cancer. So, it is very important to learn how to cope and deal with it. If you or any of your loved have ever been affected by cancer, this is going to be the episode you’re gonna want to listen. In this episode, I am joined by a world leader in cancer research and the author of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, Dr. Nasha Winters. I’m thrilled to have Dr. Nasha on to bring us wisdom and tips in navigating the cancer terrain. Dr. Nasha Winters speaks from experience when she talks about Cancer and how to be proactive in preventing and/or combating it. Her first experience with cancer was at the age of 19. She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer and given only a few months to live. Determine to get well, she discovered the life changes that would turn it around. She immersed herself in chemistry and biology and became her own savior. Her book, The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, stems from her nearly three decades of personal and professional experience in the field of integrative oncology. Dr. Nasha is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO). She is a global healthcare authority in integrative cancer research. Dr. Nasha is a sought-after speaker and consults with physicians worldwide. This episode is all about cancer and we dig deep as to why this disease is happening. Listen and learn from the stories that Dr. Nasha shares that will truly affect your heart. We also talked about skin cancer, BRCA gene, vitamin D and more. There’s so much information in this episode making it truly one for the books! In this episode, you'll discover:   [4:24] Dr. Nasha’s first experience with cancer At the age of 19, Dr. Nasha was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. She was given 3 to 6 months to live, even with treatment. She was filled with ascites, metastatic lesions, crippled in extreme pain and nausea, had infections simmering, severe malnourishment, and muscle wasting. Her doctors told her that chemo and surgery wouldn’t help her advanced cancer. The diagnosis of terminal cancer suddenly shook her awake and asked her point-blank if she wanted to live or die. It had taken countless doctors over six months to stop making assumptions and defaulting to writing scripts from A (anxiolytics) to Z (Zithromax).  Dr. Nasha was forced to explore alternative methods. Luckily, she was blessed with an ER doctor who allowed her the time to share the chronology of her symptoms and truly listen. In the last 6 months, Dr. Nasha have seen 5 girls under the age of 10 with Stage IV Ovarian cancer.  Dr. Nasha acknowledges that her past experiences of significant trauma and abuse contributed to her illness.   [17:42] What is The Gerson Therapy? The Gerson Therapy was popularized in the 1940s by Dr. Charlotte Gerson. Dr. Gerson had amazing experience of solving all kinds of oncology situations by putting people on a very vegetable-densed high potassium, low sodium chloride diet.  The key parts of the Gerson therapy are a strict diet, dietary supplements, and enemas.   [24:12] Sharing authentically is very powerful for healing the body.  The theory that changing mental state can affect the course of cancer has been popularized by authors such as Bernie Siegel and Deepak Chopra.  A support group program called Exceptional Cancer Patients (ECap) developed by Dr. Siegel found that women with breast cancer has a higher chance of survival rate when they are part of a support group. Take The ACE Quiz - According to the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, the rougher your childhood, the higher your score is likely to be and the higher your risk for later health problems.   [27:45] The Cancer Experience Having been diagnosed with cancer felt a very dirty secret for Dr. Nasha. The first person that she has told about her diagnosis then is now her husband.  The hardest thing when you are dealing with a cancer diagnosis is the well-meaning advice and wishes of the people in your circle.  You could take every perfect supplement. You could be in perfect metabolic flexibility. You can have an incredibly immaculate clean environment. But, if you are not dealing with the emotional healing within yourselves, you are not gonna get very far. You are not gonna get the outcomes you are hoping to achieve. People have to come to it when they are ready. Check out this resource from Dr. Nasha: 5 Steps to Take After a Cancer Diagnosis   [34:38] Top tools to heal your body At 16, Dr. Nasha decided to become a ‘vegetarian’.  A Chinese medical practitioner looked at her tongue and told her, “You have to eat some animal food.” TEST. ASSESS. ADDRESS. Adjust accordingly. Consistently do your labs. Do not guess. Do not compare.  Dr. Nasha advices people diagnosed with cancer to not tell everybody in the beginning. When you tell your loved ones, you deal with their reactions and you don’t get the opportunity to work on your own. [41:28] Issue with eating every two to three hours When we eat that often, we don’t give ourselves the bowel rest we need so that everything can clear up and evacuate. You have to give that window of autophagy to take out the garbage. Somewhere between 12 to 72 hours (depending on the person and situation), that’s what it’ll take to get some autophagy.  If you fast 13 hours a day and you are eating clean and relatively low carb, you will shift into some moderate autophagy.  When you are dealing with cancer, you’d want to moderate or lower your protein to avoid clicking on the mTOR pathways.  Kick-up your fats and restrict your carbohydrates to stay off the insulin growth factor aspect.  Bring in some intermittent fasting.  13 hours everyday, 16 to 18 hours twice a week, 3 days a month of fasting.  Walk towards to water fasting.  If you feel hungry, drink water. If after 15 minutes, you are still hungry, have a teaspon of coconut oil. After 15 minutes again, have a little bit of protein. If you are still hungry after that, eat a piece of fruit.  Hunger is more psychological than physical.    [47:30] Tips for people who are recovering from surgery  Understand why did we get here. We can’t completely heal and stay healed in the soil in which we got sick. Learn about The Terrain Ten, Dr. Winters’s cancer program for achieving optimal health See a prostate specialist to have a look for infectious agents.  Do some basic good laboratory assessment. Rule of thumb specific for prostate cancer only:  Avoid poultry skin and dairy. If you want dairy, take occasional heavy sour cream.  Quality is key. We don’t want extras because extras are all cancer drivers. Avoid red meat especially if you have the ACSL1.  Monitor both free and total PSA and PAP. Get a BIOCEPT prostate profile and circulating tumor cell count enumeration.   [52:36] Fasting, Keto and Skin Cancer: Myths and Facts All of us could benefit from a lower carbohydrate diet and higher plant intake diet.  Sugar drives the viral process. Melanoma is not a skin cancer. It is a systemic cancer. It is one of the cancers that the Gerson Diet does a pretty good job with.  Low carb diet to vegetarian diet Apply soap to pits and parts. Do not damage the absorption process of your skin.  Get a good bath every two weeks.  Skin tags are blood sugars. If you see skin tags, you are looking at diabetes.  [60:00] Test. Assess. Address. Dr. Nasha encourages everyone to run at least annually a complete metabolic panel (CMP),  complete blood count (CBC), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and Lactic Acid Dehydrogenase (LDH) Test. Awareness is the first step. Make sure you vitamin D levels are above 50, if you are not dealing with a chronic illness. Even though an LDH test is useful in diagnosing tissue damage, other tests are usually necessary to pinpoint the location of the damage. One such test is called the LDH isoenzymes test. LDH isoenzymes are five kinds of the LDH enzyme that are found in specific concentrations in different organs and tissues.    [68:00]  What is The BRCA gene? The name “BRCA” is an abbreviation for “BReast CAncer gene.” BRCA1 and BRCA2 are two different genes that have been found to impact a person’s chances of developing breast cancer. When a BRCA gene is mutated, it may no longer be effective at repairing broken DNA and helping to prevent breast cancer. Because of this, people with a BRCA gene mutation are more likely to develop breast cancer, and more likely to develop cancer at a younger age. The carrier of the mutated gene can also pass a gene mutation down to his or her offspring.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode:  Email me at ben@ketokamp.com Join the The Keto Kamp Inner Circle Claim my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com Subscribe to the Keto Kamp YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  To know more about Dr. Nasha Winters, visit her website here. Intermittent Fasting vs Caloric Restriction, Why Counting Calories Is Stupid – Ben Azadi: KKP 11

Intermittent Fasting vs Caloric Restriction, Why Counting Calories Is Stupid – Ben Azadi: KKP 11

In this episode, we’ll talk all about counting calories. Here is an overview of this episode: Why cutting calories only works short term The difference between intermittent fasting & counting calories Where the energy expenditure hypothesis came from (this will shock you) Why you cannot outsmart the human body Get my FREE Keto Kickstart Guide: www.ketokickstartguide.com  YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/ketokamp  My Favorite Keto Coffee: www.ketokampcofee.com    03:45 A story about a woman named Sandra who hired a nutritionist to help her lose weight, and this nutritionists (backward) approach of telling her to eat less and move more. This story powerfully illustrates why you cannot outsmart the human body. 08:03 Where did this energy expenditure hypothesis come from, and why are dietitians and nutritionists still promoting this? This will shock you.  08:35 Faith vs fear. Faith and fear both demand for you to believe in something you cannot see; you choose! 09:12 Food is information. What really matters are the hormonal response from calories. We are a dynamic system. At this point of the episode I give an analogy I learned from Gary Taubes 10:10 A simple example of why quality is much more important than quantity. I can give 500 calories to one person of brownies day after day. I can give the same 500 calories to another person of a kale salmon salad day after day. Will there be a difference? You bet! 10:48 A brilliant analogy from Dr. Jason Fung about proximate cause vs ultimate cause. 12:30 With calories in vs calories out, you don't have enough data. It doesn't tell you about hormones, cell membrane inflammation, mold exposure, silver fillings, and many other hidden stressors contributing to weight gain.  13:10 The difference between intermittent fasting while cutting calories, and cutting your calories while eating small portion control meals every 2-3 hours. The biggest difference here is counter regulatory hormones. Intermittent fasting is not about eating less, its about eating less often.  15:45 There's a cause of every effect. We don't lose weight to get healthy, we get healthy to lose weight. Einstein said it best, "Intellectuals solver problems. Geniuses prevent them."  16:15 A perfect example of why chasing symptoms only sets you up for longterm failure.  Claim Your FREE Keto Kickstart Guide Today: www.ketokickstartguide.com  This podcast is for information purposes only. 30 Days Fasting, Insulin & Weight Gain, Reversing Diabetes, Vitamin D & Insulin Connection – Dr. Don Clum KKP 009

30 Days Fasting, Insulin & Weight Gain, Reversing Diabetes, Vitamin D & Insulin Connection – Dr. Don Clum KKP 009

Today, I am joined by one of the most brilliant Chiropractors, Functional Fitness expert, and Nutritionist, specializing in Advanced Metabolic Nutrition, Dr. Don Clum. Unlike what’s known in the medical world, his approach in Diabetic Care and other metabolic syndromes such as obesity has shown remarkable results. In this episode, Dr. Clum talks about his experience in the practice of Diabetic Care and Fasting, giving focus on the important role of insulin and other hormones in our body. We’ve also talked about the fasting process and how our metabolic organs play vital roles in keeping our body healthy. He shares a few powerful messages. One of which is that “The goal of fasting is not to just get through it, but to actually have the ability to do it”. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I do! GRAB YOUR FREE KETO KICKSTART GUIDE: WWW.KETOKICKSTARTGUIDE.COM SUBSCRIBE TO THE KETO KAMP YOUTUBE CHANNEL: WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/KETOKAMP PURCHASE THE HEALTHIEST KETO COFFEE ON THE PLANET: WWW.KETOKAMPCOFFEE.COM    During our discussion, you’ll discover: [2:24] Dr. Clum’s interesting childhood He grew up in a family of chiropractors As a teenager, he really did not want to be one until he was bribed by his father to attend a seminar and eventually enjoyed a studio night lead by a group of chiropractor students. He then went to Atlanta Georgia to take a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and LifeWest in California to take his Chiropractic degree. He eventually influenced his daughter to be a chiropractor too by bringing her in chiropractic seminars. Growing up, he and his siblings were raised in a healthy environment. They grew up attending college seminars as family vacations and did not use medications often.   [7:12] Dr. Clum’s life as a chiropractor in Costa Rica He gives credit to Shawn Dill who authored the law that regulates the practice of chiropractic in Costa Rica. He lived eight years in Costa Rica working with universities and olympic athletes mostly.   [10:59] Dr. Clum’s story of getting into his passion for Diabetes It started back when he was diagnosed with skin cancer back in Costa Rica. With his background in nutrition, he studied more about diet and lifestyle. He was able to heal himself with a change of diet and lifestyle. After 10 years, realizing the problem in obesity and diabetes, he opened a Wellness Center in Spain providing different programs such as weight loss, fast fitness, and metabolic syndrome programs. [14:54] Introducing his model in the medical world Dr. Warren White, an owner of a Population Health Company, partnered with him to provide his services in a larger scope of population. He had to study and research diabetes holistically to back up his own diabetes prevention program as it completely opposed the ADA Diabetes Guidelines. He fought for the recognition that the insulin-based model is the more effective approach in diabetes.   [20:31] ADA’s Diabetes Prevention Program vs. Dr. Clum’s Insulin-based Model ADA’s is a traditional model and focuses on regulating blood sugar. It is based on low fat, low calorie, small frequent meals and snacks, increasing physical activity and medication. A study showed that it does not prevent diabetes, but only postpones it. Dr. Clum’s program focuses on controlling the root cause of diabetes, the insulin. Insulin sensitivity decreases symptoms of Type II Diabetes. It also promotes weight loss – visceral and non-visceral, which is vital in treating diabetes.   [26:39] Diabetes is not irreversible, degenerative disease. Diabetes is seen in the medical world as irreversible degenerative disease and requires life-long management of blood sugar. The traditional approach treats the symptoms, but if you shift in the insulin-based model, the opportunity to reverse diabetes is possible.   [28:12] The major role of hormone Insulin in Weight loss and Diabetes According to Dr. Clum, “Weight loss in itself is pointless.” In order to treat Type II diabetes, the diabetic patient needs to lose only 1 gram of fat out of the pancreas. It resets the metabolic mechanism of the pancreas. It’s not the caloric intake; it’s the insulin that plays in weight management Since 60’s and 70’s, there are a lot of studies about weight management that revolves in the law of thermodynamics or “calories in = calories out”. However, they are not effective for everyone. It is random and never predictable. Insulin-based program in treating diabetes is more complex than calories in = calories out  Patients who already tried the traditional way of managing diabetes were advised to eat more rather than eating less to get their metabolism to a certain point before the fasting.   [36:30] The concept of fed and lean state In a constant fed state, the insulin is up all the time. Eating is any time our body consumes calories. An average American is in a constant fed state, eating about 17-23 times a day. When you fast, your body becomes in a lean state. When you fast, your body starts to repair damaged cells in your body. Damaged cells are getting rid of or reused as energy.   [41:15] Dr. Clum’s 30-day of fasting His fasting started from 3 days and gradually progressed into 30 days. He did not experience hunger and cravings. He experienced fat and muscle loss, losing about 20 pounds.   [44:30] Negative connotations in fasting – muscle wasting and not getting through it There’s no need to be afraid of muscle wasting as muscle comes back and recovers, as seen in athletes as well. The goal of fasting is not to just get through it, but to have the ability to do it. If you train and prepare physically and mentally, you can do it.   [47:48] How much of an impact has eating high healthy fat, low carb diet been for his patients, especially diabetic patients? Keto diet is commonly used to control snacking. He has seen keto diet to be effective in losing 60 pounds in 8 weeks. Healthy liver and pancreas is vital in order to get the health benefits of the keto diet.   [51:48] Skin as a metabolic organ The skin makes 50% of men’s testosterone. In women, it makes up 75% of their estrogen and in menopause, it makes 100% Your skin has a huge role in cancer and insulin resistance.   [53:15] Vitamin D can be an indicator in detecting insulin resistance. Vitamin D and Insulin resistance has an inverse relationship.  When your Vitamin D is low, you are insulin resistant.   [55:24] Dr. Clum’s current projects Online 12-hour medical education course Insulin Resistance Program: A True Metabolic Reset This program is designed to RESET the metabolism to a better hormonal balance and convert the body to become and efficient fat burning machine.
