More about today’s guests Chris Struck credits his upbringing in a large, hybrid French-Deeply Southern U.S. family in the coastal city of Destin, Florida as what incited his passion for food and beverage at an early age. He began cooking in Chef Tim Creehan’s fine dining restaurant group at the age of 14 and supplemented his formal restaurant apprenticeship with self-study trips to Europe, working in both kitchens and vineyards to gain greater knowledge of regional cuisines and wines. After completing undergraduate degrees in Culinary Arts & Food Service Management at Johnson & Wales University, Struck gained certifications from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, Society of Wine Educators, Court of Master Sommeliers, and Deutsche Wein und Sommelierschule in Germany. Struck holds an Executive MBA in Food Marketing from Saint Joseph's University. He is currently Beverage Director for ilili restaurant in New York City, Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY, and trade ambassador for both wines of Alto Adige and wines of Georgia. When he moved back to Italy, he was responsible for the commercial and communications departments of Casa Vinicola Sartori, focusing at first on the domestic market, and later on foreign ones. Since 2000, he has been the President of Casa Sartori 1898. Besides taking care of the commercial aspects of the company, he is also in charge of the strategic vision of the business. There they conducted dozens of interviews with some of Italy's most inspiring producers. Join the fun every Thursday afternoon! More about today’s winery: Grandfather Ferruccio was a miller, but his real passion was farming, especially winegrowing. In 1957 he bought the house and the vineyard in the Rocca Bernarda hills, initially focusing on the production of the Friuli white then called Tocai, a wine that goes perfectly with whatever you're eating. We know all this from the stories told by Ferruccio's son Arturo, who took part in that move along with the rest of the family, uprooting from the little town of Vencò, where the mill was located, and settling in what is now the Corno di Rosazzo wine estate. During the 1980s it was Arturo's son, Adriano, who took over the winery, choosing a peacock as a symbol of the winery, and launching the first bottles on the market. Today, the winery is headed by Adriano and his wife Giuliana, along with his cousin Ariedo, who joined the company as wine technician.
