It is best to find someone who can guide you in the ins and outs of the industry so you can determine if it is the right fit for you. You must also consider the trade offs of executive protection and if these align with what you want out of your career now that you are in the private sector.

Kristin: "Having this woman who worked her way up through the company, she knew everything inside and out and helped me really understand what HR is doing, how the backbone of the company works, is fantastic. And sometimes it's great to even get a mentor outside of your genre."

Kristin: "What is your work-life with your professional goals? Sometimes you do have to suck it up, and you do have to live in those places and you do have to have long commutes, or live in a cheaper place and things like that. But also, I ask people, what company would you never work for?"

Kristin: "Onboarding people and getting them set up and introducing them to the client, introducing them to the executives, it's a lot of time. And if it just doesn't seem like something that you're 100% wholehearted into, then it's probably not the job for you. And just keep looking. It's not a big deal."
