Our gender experiences

Welcome to the first episode of halfway! Today I am joined by Raniyah and Ayush.

Raniyah and I talk about our experiences as women, focusing on our daily lives, whilst Ayush offers a listening ear and asks insightful questions, whilst offering a male perspective.

Segment 1: 1min35secs

- The pressure on women to prove themselves just as capable as men

- The emotional toll of street harassment and how it is so normalised

- Societies obsession with putting women into boxes (i.e. the girly girl, bruh girl, basic girl) which negates the idea that like every other human being, women are multifaceted

- The pressure on men to be “strong” and to not express their emotions in a “weak” manner

Segment 2: 30min58secs

- Daily objectification and sexualisation of women by men

- The dynamic of female versus male friendships

- The irony of girls being stereotypically labelled as “boy-crazy”

- Our experiences with the internalized male gaze

- Men not being able to take “no” for an answer whilst women feel incapable of saying no
