Wild Swimrun w/ Helene Ostet

Welcome to episode 276 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We’ve got a “feel good” episode for everyone this week. Joining us to celebrate our five year anniversary of supporting Wild Swimrun is our friend and Swimrun ambassador, Helene Ostet. We always say that the best part about Swimrun is the community and Helene and the work of Wild Swimrun is a shining example of what is great about the sport. In this conversation we talked about the history of Wild Swimrun, what they are currently up to, and what the future holds for women and girls in the sport. We are launching a fundraiser for their Wild Youth Initiative as part of our five year celebration so head over to our website to donate to this amazing cause.

Enjoy!

One Water Race 2023 Recap w/Thomas Ogander

One Water Race 2023 Recap w/Thomas Ogander

Welcome to episode 194 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! On deck this week is our race recap for the 2023 edition of the One Water Race. To help paint the picture of this epic event we welcome back to the show (for the third time) OG Swimrunner and race director, Thomas Ogander. Thomas and the team really stepped up their game for the 2023 edition of the race and we can’t wait to share this race recap with all of you.But first…Training UpdateWe have just one race left on the 2023 calendar and we’ve set our “training gaze” to Ödyssey Swimrun Austin Pace Bend in early November. TBD on what the training will look like but the swimming and running will continue unabated.ShoutoutThis week we’re shouting out Andy and the whole team at New England Endurance Events. They had to make the tough call to cancel Swimrun Cape Cod this past weekend due to looming Hurricane Lee. I, for one, really appreciated all of their communication during what must have been a huge bummer for everyone involved. The race looked like a lot of fun and it’s already on the calendar for 2024. The race date will be September 21, 2024.Feats of EnduranceThis week’s award is probably better named as the FOMO award. Shoutout to everyone that raced Ödyssey Swimrun Orcas Island over the weekend. Looked like an amazing day out there and congrats to everyone that lined up at Rosario Resort!Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.Thomas Ogander, One Water RaceIt was great to chat with Thomas. His enthusiasm, energy, and dedication is infectious and can’t express strongly enough how massive a feat it is to bring his dream of this 250km race to life and then do it again. In this conversation we got his race director report, his focus on environmental awareness, and his plan for 2024. There’s a lot of awesome content about this year’s race so make sure that you head to YouTube to get your mind blown.Enjoy!~~~That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star rating and review since that’s the best way for people to discover the show and the sport of Swimrun. Dr. Justin Ross, Sports Psychologist

Welcome to episode 193 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We’ve got a great episode for everyone this week. Joining us in studio G is Dr. Justin Ross. He’s a sports psychologist/zen master out of Colorado and someone who we’ve been talking a lot about on the show since we learned about him from the morning shakeout podcast. We had this conversation right before leaving for Sweden and it seems fitting to share it upon our return. But first…Training UpdateIt feels really nice to say that there is no longer a 70km ÖTILLÖ-sized elephant in the room and we can get back to a more realistic training volume. No rest for the weary though as Chris is headed to Massachusetts for the inaugural Swimrun Cape Cod.ShoutoutWe’re giving a blanket shoutout this week to everyone that reached out to us to either wish us well in Sweden and/or checked in on us afterwards. We mention it often that it’s always super humbling to see all the support that we receive from everyone and we appreciate it more than we can adequately express.Feats of EnduranceKeeping the theme going, we’re giving a blanket award to everyone that raced (and volunteered) at ÖTILLÖ last week. We’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating that everyone that lines up at the start of that race gets all of our respect, regardless of outcome on the day.Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff. This Week in SwimrunNow for the news.It doesn’t happen often but there are not one but two Swimruns taking place in the U.S. this weekend. Over in Washington, Ödyssey Swimrun Orcas Island is taking place on Sunday, Sept. 17th. We love this race and can’t recommend it enough.Over in Massachusetts, New England Endurance Events is hosting its inaugural Swimrun Cape Cod. The race takes place in the town of Wellfleet and has been sold out for a couple of months. Make sure to check out the podcast next week for our race report of this new race.Over in the U.K., Swimrun Oxford is taking place on Sunday Sept. 17th. Thank you Mike Phillips for putting this race on our radar. It looks like a fun one so head over there if you’re able to support this local event. That’s it for this week. Reach out to us if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.Show BusinessIf you haven’t already, please consider leaving a rating and review for the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or whatever platform you listen on. This is the best way to help other people discover the show…and it helps us justify the effort to our wives.Dr. Justin RossIt was really great to chat with Dr. Ross. As we mentioned at the outset, we discovered Justin at the start of the year and began incorporating his methodology in our build up to ÖTILLÖ. In this conversation we chatted about his background and approach, the importance of self-awareness, what it means to be “in it,” and so much more. You’ll want to get your notepads out for this one.You can learn more about Dr. Ross on his website.Enjoy!~~~That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star rating and review since that’s the best way for people to discover the show and the sport of Swimrun. Team Surprise Nu Swimrun

Welcome to episode 190 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We’re headed to France this week to chat with Team Surprise Nu Swimrun, A.K.A., Benjamin Dupain and David Pesquet. They are one of the top French teams heading to Stockholm for the World Championship and we caught up with them to chat about their 5-year Swimrun partnership, how they are preparing for the big day, and the importance of experience. This was a fun conversation and we can’t wait to share it with all of you. But first…Training UpdateOur last big week of training is in the books and we’re almost at the “hay is in the barn” stage of our training for ÖTILLÖ. After a 5-hour Swimrun practice on Friday and a 3-hour trail run on Sunday, it’s safe to say that we’re looking forward to tapering soon.ShoutoutOur shoutout this week goes to Chip Warner. He’s our newest Patron on Patreon and also happens to be racing ÖTILLÖ, in a few weeks! Thank you so much for the support and see you in a few weeks.Feats of EnduranceWe’re giving another blanket award this week to all the teams that lined up for the second edition of the One Water Race. Let’s get right to it!The 8th edition of the legendary Rockman Swimrun took place over the weekend and it looked extra-epic from its usual level of epicness. Conditions were challenging with cold, rough swims, technical trails, and, of course, the 4,444 step climb to Pulpit Rock. The epic-ness continues this week with the 2nd edition of the One Water Race taking place. We’ll have more coverage about this event in a few weeks with race director, and Swimrun OG, Thomas Ogander. Finally, there’s a small race in Sweden taking place in a few weeks that you may have heard of called ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. This will be the 17th edition of this race and the first under the watch of ÖTILLÖ’s new race director, Staffan Björklund. Make sure to check out our interview with Staffan and learn about how super stoked he is to be a part of the rich history of this epic race.Team Surprise Nu SwimrunIt was great to catch up with Ben and David. We had met briefly after the World Championship last year (and learned that Ben was married to a Puerto Rican) and we kept track of their exploits on IG. They have a similar origin story to us so it was cool to chat about how they met, the benefits of racing with the same partner, and got all kinds of training and strategy tips from them for ÖTILLÖ. Welcome to episode 189 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We’ve got an epic show for everyone that is only fitting because the topic is an epic race, namely, the second edition of the One Water Race.
