Albert Pierrepoint: The history of capital punishment.

Albert Pierrepoint’s life and career spanned some of the most pivotal moments in history, with him carrying out the executions of some of the 20th century’s most notorious criminals.

Join me for this series of episodes during which I shall chronicle Albert’s life as one of Britain’s last executioners and the changing attitudes to capital punishment with each episode focusing on one case in which Albert was called upon to deliver the final sentence.

In this first episode I shall delve into the history of capital punishment including the roles of Albert’s predecessors their experiences, and some of their most notable executions.
