My guest today is Tony Tucker! (Episode 153)

Tony is a Business Development and Commercialisation Manager in CSIRO’s Data 61. He currently leads development of several strategic industry relationships / projects, and the commercialisation of various CSIRO technologies. Tony has lead BD & C initiatives and major bids in Australian universities for a decade including with University of Queensland, James Cook University, University of Technology Sydney, and Western Sydney University. Before joining CSIRO in April 2023, Tony was Associate Director Enterprise Partnerships at the University of Queensland, also holding role of Innovation Broker. In 2021, Tony lead industry engagement and business development for UQ's Protected Cropping and Sustainable Future Cities collaborative research initiatives. In 2022, he established a university wide Business Development Community of Practice, chairing the CoP until his departure. In 2019, while with James Cook University, Tony received a Vice Chancellors award of achievement, in Innovation & Change, for outstanding contribution to JCU’s strategic intent. In 2016/17, while at University Technology Sydney, Tony led planning and negotiations, with multiple parties including NSW Office of Premier & Cabinet and Defence Science and Technology Group, for the successful establishment of the NSW Defence Innovation Network (NSW DIN).Prior to employment in universities Tony worked as audio engineer including as research engineer with Dolby Laboratories and part of the team that designed and delivered Dolby’s first voice conference phone. At Dolby, Tony individually designed and led various research experiments, for the Dolby Chief Scientist and other research groups, building equipment and delivering data sets crucial to the design of valuable company technologies. Tony has a Master of Audio and Acoustics, from Sydney University and spent an earlier decade as a broadcast technician in Australian television and radio, building and managing outside broadcast audio systems and RF links. Tony has vast experience working with diverse teams around delivery of complex technologies, he has well-developed skills to manage people and products through to successful endpoints, and commercial gain.
