LISK w/ author Jesse P. Pollack Part 2

Jesse P. Pollack was born and raised in the garden state of New Jersey, and has served as a contributing writer for Weird NJ magazine since 2001. His first book, Death on the Devil’s Teeth, coauthored with Mark Moran, was published in 2015 to critical acclaim. Also an accomplished musician, Pollack’s soundtrack work has been heard on Driving Jersey, an Emmy-nominated PBS documentary series. He is married with two children, three dogs, and a couple of cats. The first set of remains was discovered in 2010 while police were searching for another woman, 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert. It wouldn't be for another year when Gilbert's body would be found across the way on neighboring Oak Beach. Once Gilbert's body was recovered, the total number of bodies found was 11. Police said most of the women worked in prostitution and advertised on such services as Craigslist. When an independent autopsy was performed on Gilbert's body, they were able to determine she was killed due to homicidal strangulation. The reason for the second autopsy was the first one concluded Gilbert had died from drowning and drug overdose. The autopsy was able to show she did not die from a natural disease, drug overdose, or drowning. Gilbert had vanished after visiting a customer and was told to have freaked out and started banging on neighbor's doors, asking for help and saying people were trying to kill her. Sarah Pryor: 1985

Sarah Pryor: 1985

Who Killed Sarah Pryor? I want to thank a listener for suggesting this story. I have done episodes on the case of Molly Bish and Holly Pirrainen, and the listener suggested I look into the case of Sarah Pryor. Another case connected loosely to the Pryor case is that of 16-year-old Cathy Malcolmson. Cathy was working at the IGA supermarket when she was abducted on her way home from work. The listener, who is from the Massachusetts area where these abductions took place, said there had been some talk that Sarah’s case may also be connected to Molly and Holly’s cases. I decided to look into the Pryor mystery and was surprised by what I found. One of the similarities I began to see was the area's geography and how close these incidents took place to one another. Sarah was taken an hour from where Holly went missing, but all three of these cases occurred just off the Massachusetts Turnpike. It may be a stretch to think these cases could be connected, but it doesn’t mean the idea should be discounted. Some books and documentaries talk about how the construction of the interstate enabled a new type of killer. Amy Mihaljevic: True Crime Garage, Off the Record

On this week's episode of Who Killed...? I am going to flip things around a bit. I was recently a guest on the True Crime Garage premium show Off the Record on Apple Podcasts. Since this was an opportunity for Nic to ask me some questions about this case, I thought it would be relevant to the listeners of this program to hear where I stand on things and how it was that I got involved in Amy’s case. TIPS: 440-871-1234 The thing is, that October 27, 1989, was just like any other day in northeast Ohio up until those first reports of a missing girl from Bay Village hit the news around 10 o’clock. The city and the citizens felt like they had been punched in the gut. How could one of their own be taken right out from under the noses of the public, across from the police station nonetheless? As the days progressed, new information was being released regularly, with the most important being that of this phone caller who had potentially lured Amy to the plaza that Friday afternoon. The information about this phone call was given by two of Amy’s friends, who had been told of the plan on the meeting day. In speaking with Chief Spaetzel, these kids were able to provide a few very significant details, one of the most essential being that Amy was told she had $45 to spend and that if there was any money left over, she could also get a gift. Suppose you would like to help support this podcast. In that case, you can donate via the Venmo app with my username @bill-huffman-3. If you have any information regarding Amy's murder, please get in touch with the Bay Village Police Department @ 440-871-1234 or the FBI @ 1-800-Call-FBI. Learn more about your ad choices.
