Welcome to Episode 5; Part 2 (which is called Episode 6 confusingly), Exploring International Surrogacy: A Guide for Irish Nationals ft. Anette Hickey.

Welcome back, this two parter was originally a 20 min episode, but whilst in the studio in Dublin, Michael and Wes kept the audio running, and the conversations were not only authentic, but simply gorgeous.

Surrogacy for Irish nationals can be complex, especially with some of the legal challenges around parenthood. In January 2024 we will see Georgia no longer be a via option for foreigners, and with Ukraine equally not advisable the options can feel limited, or at worst unachievable. However, on this two part episode we speak to respected surrogacy lawyer Annette Hickey about the steps you should take when exploring international surrogacy. We have special guests from Irish Families Through Surrogacy and also Ormand Quay Paternity Services. with two of the major destinations for surrogacy

Annette Hickey - is a partner in Poe Kiely Hogan Lanigan Solicitors, where she works exclusively as a surrogacy / fertility law solicitor. She has represented Irish parents who have pursued surrogacy in Ireland, USA, Canada, Columbia, Georgia, Ukraine, Argentina, North Cyprus and Mexico as a route to parenthood through surrogacy. egulated statutory framework for domestic and international surrogacy and a retrospective pathway to parenthood in Irish legislation.

Sinead Gallagher

Sinead and Mark went through 14 IVF cycles with a number of early miscarriages. They looked at the Ukraine as it had the ethical and legal framework in place. They had their first little boy in April 2021 to create their family.

Sinead became a committee member of Irish Families Through Surrogacy when she returned from Kyiv with Theo. IFTS are an advocacy group campaigning for legislation which will give full recognition to our children and those born in the future. Their hope would be that by the end of the year our children and future children would have the regulation, protections and ethical safeguards in place.

Audrey O’Sullivan

Audrey has worked as the Operations Director for Ormand Quay Paternity Services since 2014. Audrey specialises in DNA testing relating to surrogacy, as well as other immigration matters. Audrey is central to a strong network of medical professionals, solicitors and social workers both internationally and domestically.
