Australian Athletics announced their second phase of selections for the World Championship Team for Tokyo September, with Andy Buchanan, Tim Vincent, Leanne Pompeani and Izzi Batt-Doyle nominated to contest the marathon, with provisional spots for Vanessa Wilson and Liam Boudin. XCR25 begins the season anew this time at Hanging Rock where Andre Waring took out the 8km Open event in 24:13, followed by Matt Buckell and Liam Cashin. In the Men’s Premier Division Western Athletics was the winning team ahead of Sandringham and then Box Hill. Katherine Dowie for Ballarat won in 29:21, ahead of Charlotte Wilson and Rachel McGuinness. Sandringham were the Premier Division winners, followed by South Melbourne and then Melbourne University. Adam goes into detail the research that went into developing the program, what it aims to do in driving physical literacy and participation for children aged 3-12 years old, the format and how it will engage their motivation, how parents get involved and the plans for future expansion. Among the races, Adam Spencer took out a stacked 1500m field, kicking in the last 200m to win in 3:37.68 ahead of Oli Hoare and Jesse Hunt. Stewy McSweyn, having led for most of it, placed fourth. Jess Hull had a much more decisive victory, clearing the field with a lap to go for the Championship title in 4:01.39 with Georgia Griffith and Linden Hall on the podium. Claudia Hollingsworth had 19th birthday celebrations to remember, winning the 800m in an Olympic Qualifier of 1:58.40, ahead of Abbey Caldwell, Bendere Oboya and Catriona Bisset. Luke Boyes held off a fast-finishing Peter Bol to win the 800m title in 1:44.73, narrowly missing the Olympic Qualifier time, with Payton Craig taking third place. Rose Davies broke away to win the 5000m title in 15:21.62 ahead of Lauren Ryan and Maudie Skyring, while Matt Ramsden slipped in the inside to win the 5000m title in 13:39.61, ahead of Morgan McDonald and Jackson Sharp.
