Successful Survivors podcast is by and for survivors of childhood trauma (abandonment, neglect, poverty, chaos, dysfunction, abuse, trafficking or any other cause of trauma). It's real, raw and funny--like us.

We're glad you're here. We're sorry about what you went through. We hope as you're listening to this that those painful times are in the past. We know that for some, it feels like it's still going on with the pain feeling as bad today as when it happened. We hope that by getting together with us, the pain will lessen and eventually be gone.

We get together to talk about the stuff that victims, survivors and successful survivors care about. We don't compare who had a worse childhood. No matter what happened, pain is pain. We had to live through the gory details of it all, so we don't spend a lot of our time re-living it. What we talk about is how we got through it. How we refused to waste our pain. How we found meaning in our pain and made the painful events of our lives matter. Those are the things that helped us move beyond the pain, and we hope it helps you too.

We want you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There are an estimated 36 million survivors of child neglect, abuse (verbal, physical and sexual), and trafficking in the US today. When we add the people who experienced childhood poverty, abandonment by a parent who left the home or died, and all of the other types of trauma that children experience, we think that number is much higher. The bottom line is that means that we survivors of childhood trauma are everywhere!

WE ARE YOUR TRIBE, and you are safe here. We come from every background, culture, race, ethnicity, age group, etc., so we don't agree on everything. (It would be pretty boring if we did!) In this episode we talk about how survivors do better in life when we're connected. Isolation isn't good for us (or anyone). When we're connected, we push through challenges, we persevere, and we get through hard times--usually with a few laughs.
