Jessica Malaty Rivera: Science Communicator and Infectious Disease Epidemiologist

Jessica Malaty Rivera is an infectious disease epidemiologist and science communicator renowned for making complex public health information accessible, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. While initially premed at USC, she pivoted to studying health promotion and disease prevention, and worked in the nonprofit sector after college. She was later recruited to research emerging biological threats at Georgetown University and simultaneously decided to pursue a master’s degree there in biohazardous threat agents and emerging infectious diseases. While she’s always loved science, she began to realize that where she truly excelled was in “speaking science.” And the deeper Rivera got into infectious disease epidemiology—whether through work or academia—the more she realized how critical the communications aspect of science was to public health. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she joined The Atlantic to lend her expertise to the COVID Tracking Project to provide publicly available, comprehensive data on COVID-19 cases in real time. She then began using Instagram to explain and interpret global health news, unexpectedly gaining a large following for her easy-to-understand information. Over the past five years, she has grown her platform, launched a Substack, and is currently completing a Doctorate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, all while remaining dedicated to science facts and public health literacy.

Henrietta Rix is the co-founder of the womenswear brand Rixo. Founded in 2015, it has quickly become a favorite for its gorgeous prints, timeless silhouettes, high-quality silk, and non-designer price tags. But beyond the brand’s stunning dresses, Rix and Co-Founder Orlagh McCloskey have worked to develop Rixo as a company with a unique perspective on fashion and vintage. To that end, they’ve opened up a flagship store on King’s Road in London that contains a coffee shop, bar, bridal boutique, tailoring bar, and rental collection. To align with the brand’s aim to produce “future vintage” pieces, it also tracks several sustainability goals to lower its impact on the environment. Henrietta is here to discuss the origins of Rixo’s signature prints and what it takes to grow a brand without outside investment. Plus, hear what her favorite pieces for summer are.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Gaby Dalkin is widely known as one of the original food bloggers, but before she was running What’s Gaby Cooking, she began her career in fashion PR. But when the economy crashed in 2008, she lost her job and decided to enroll in culinary school. From that moment, her food career snowballed: On the same day she started classes, she also began cataloging her journey on her now-famous blog called What’s Gaby Cooking, and only a few weeks into school, she booked a job as a personal chef. She spent the next few years honing her culinary and pastry skills, working as a private chef for celebs like Jessica Simpson, mastering food styling, and building her growing blog. Then, in 2013, she received her first book deal and leaped into working on What’s Gaby Cooking full-time. Today, her blog remains wildly popular. Who What Wear with Hillary Kerr: Julia Fox on Her New E! Show OMG Fashun, Upcycling, and Keeping Creative Doors Open

Between writing her New York Times best-selling memoir Down the Drain, dropping a single and accompanying music video with the same title, and hosting and producing a brand-new reality competition show on E! called OMG Fashun, Julia Fox continues to creatively one-up herself. Since her breakout role in Uncut Gems in 2019, Fox has continued to make headlines for her undeniably creative fashion choices—many of which are products of her taking a pair of scissors to the random materials she finds in her apartment. Now, she's bringing that same mentality to OMG Fashun, where she challenges designers to create sustainable high-fashion looks by upcycling unconventional materials. She's here to discuss working with her co-host Law Roach, why she champions up-and-coming designers, and how having her son freed her to dress only for herself.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau: Author, Ambassador, Speaker, and Canada's De Facto First Lady

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has spent over two decades advocating in the mental health space, and she's bringing her learnings to print in her new memoir Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other, published April 23. In the book, she shares personal anecdotes as well as interviews she's conducted with psychology professionals. Grégoire Trudeau's impact in the mental health space is far-reaching, but she spent her early career in entirely different industries. She worked first in advertising and later in television as an on-camera host. It was during those years that Grégoire Trudeau began volunteering at an eating disorder clinic and found her true calling in mental health work. She later became the de facto First Lady of Canada when her husband Justin Trudeau was appointed prime minister, and she went on to use her platform to advocate on behalf of a variety of mental health causes.Order Grégoire Trudeau's book here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/723011/closer-together-by-sophie-gregoire-trudeau/9781039007444Content Warning: Eating DisordersSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
