The Zip Gun Bomber

On May 7th, 1982, 54-year old Joan Kipp returned home from her job as a guidance counselor. She was planning to spend the weekend away with her husband, at their Connecticut summer home, to celebrate Mother's Day. But when she arrived home, she saw that she had received a package in the mail: a cookbook, which she believed to be an early Mother's Day gift.

Unfortunately for Joan, the cookbook had been hollowed out. Inside, a three-barreled "zip gun" had been created, which shot out at her as soon as she opened it.

Joan would become the only casualty of an unknown assailant, who mailed out several of these packages between 1982 and 1996. Despite police developing a couple of leads, they were never able to determine the identity of the Zip Gun Bomber... or their motives...
