How to Do Hot Springs, Arkansas the Right Way
This one is a hoot! We go to Hot Springs National Park Arkansas for an overnight adventure soaking in hot springs, enjoying nature, and enjoying our friends’ company! This weekend adventure flew us into Dallas with a road trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas. The only place in the country where the town, and everything in it, IS the national park!We may have only been in Arkansas for 24 hours, but as always, we covered a lot of ground! And got to spend time with Kasha & Ryan, two friends we made on our trip to China! (see episodes 3 and 12 for more about that trip!)We thought our trip in November was the best time to visit Hot Springs National Park because it was cool enough to need a jacket, but not be cold which made the morning hike amazing because you could see the steam rising from the hot springs in the ground all around the area. It was a very cool sight to see.Things to do in Hot Springs National ParkBathhouse Row!Review of The Hotel Hot Springs and the spread at its breakfast buffetSuperior Bathhouse Brewery – the only brewery in a national park!Inappropriate photos in the tub at Lamars EmporiumVery cool historic tour of a traditional bathhouse at Fordyce Visitor CenterOur thermal pools and steam cave experience at Quapaw BathhouseDinner at the historic gangster hangout, The Ohio ClubThe delicious Fat Bottomed Girl cupcakesHiking the Grand Promenade and Goat Rock TrailHotels in Hot Springs Arkansas we recommend:Embassy Suites by Hilton at Hot Springs Convention CenterThe Hotel Hot SpringsStarlight Haven Hot SpringsFind a great flight deal to Memorial Field Airport by signing up for Thrifty Traveler Premium and watching the daily flight deals (points & cash) that are emailed directly to you! New England Fall Foliage Weekend
We’re taking you on a fall trip to New England to see beautiful fall colored trees and do fun fall activities. We used Boston as our home base and stayed at a great hotel there. If you’ve never seen Boston in the fall, then what are you waiting for? It’s ana amazing time to be in the city and on this 3-day weekend trip to New England we spent a day exploring there, took a hal day up to see New Hampshire in the fall, driving up to Conway, NH and the Flume Gorge, which is an absolutely must-visit nature preserve in fall and any time of year. We also went to Salem on Halloween, or at least it felt like it! We were there a few days before but costumes and watch things were abound in this spooky city. A New England fall trip is really one of those iconic adventures every American has to experience. The colors alone will blow you away and there’s a lot more to see than we managed to pack into this 3 day trip. Congaree National Park Trails, Wildlife, and Why You Should Visit
Episode 155 is putting the spotlight on Congaree National Park! It’s one of the most underrated national parks in America, it’s free to visit, there are no crowds, and if you’re lucky like we were, you’ll see an alligator in the wild!Congaree is two hours driving from Charleston, SC making for a perfect day trip while visiting there. We loved this park, we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too hot even when we visited in May, and we saw so much wildlife! In this episode we share the hike we did, what we saw along the way, and report back on another Publix sandwich review. What to Do: We wanted to do the 6.3 mile Oakridge Trail, but the very nice ranger onsite advised that some areas were still underwater from rains, so we were unable to do this one. We did, however do the 4.7 mile walking trail known as the Weston Lake Loop Trail and it did not disappoint! There are also opportunities to kayak in Congaree National Park, which would would provide for a unique experience and perspective. Additionally, Congaree is known for fireflies. There are two weeks in May or June each year that Congaree hosts visitors to see the fireflies. We did visit during this time, but we weren’t going to be near the park at night to see them so we missed it, but it is an epic experience if you are trying to see it. Check the Congaree NPS website for details on when it is and how to attend.Where to Stay: Columbia, SC (the closest city): Hotel Trundle, Cambria Hotel Columbia, or SpringHill Suites by Marriott ColumbiaCharleston, SC (great if you are taking a day trip to the park): Meeting Street Inn, Drury Plaza Hotel, or Barksdale House InnWhere to Fly Into: The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is the closest airport to the park (approx 30 min drive). However, the Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) are both approx 2 hours away. Find a great flight deal to these airports by signing up for Thrifty Traveler Premium and watching the daily flight deals (points & cash) that are emailed directly to you!
