Imagine this scene: You’re shopping in Target with one child pulling on your leg and the other grabbing random items off the shelves, wailing, “PLEEEEASE Mommy can I have this?” An elderly woman in the same aisle smiles at you and says, “You’re going to miss this, dear! The days are long but the years are short!” Or imagine that you buy a parenting book about a discipline approach that your sister-in-law raves about, but when you try it at home it just makes you feel uneasy.
