Welcome to episode 2436 of the Italian Wine Podcast and episode 204 of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon. Today Marc’s guest is Massimo Alois, owner and managing director of Cantine Alois. More about today’s guest: Alois Winery is located in Pontelatone, in the province of Caserta, Campania, Italy. Specifically, it is situated in the lower valley of the Volturno River, with vineyards at the western end of the Pontelatone Valley. The farm itself, a restored farmhouse dating back to the early 1800s. Cantine Alois, also known as Vini Alois, is famous for its revival of ancient, nearly lost Italian grape varieties, particularly Casavecchia and Pallagrello (both Nero and Bianco). The winery is also known for its silk-making history, with the Alois family's silk fabrics once adorning famous locations like the White House and Louvre Museum. Massimo is the son of Michele Alois, who originally established the winery and began the revival of ancient, indigenous grape varieties. Massimo has continued his father's work, focusing on research and production, particularly in identifying the best vineyard sites for these unique grapes. Ep. 2261 McKenna Cassidy interviews Alessio Inama | Next Generation

Welcome to the Next Generation and Episode 2261 of the Italian Wine Podcast. Today, McKenna Cassidy interviews Alessio Inama of the Inama winery in Soave. More about today’s guest: Alessio Inama is defined by his brothers as the "creative director" of the homonymous company. The term refers to the fact that his direction of sales, communication, marketing and packaging combines the artistic aspect with the strategic part. Alessio, despite being part of the third generation of wine producers of the Inama family, due to a strong pollen allergy, gave up on sector studies to follow a rather unusual path. After a degree in Physics in Turin and a master's degree in Decision Sciences at the City University of London, he dealt with strategic consultancy for start-ups covering the role of "growth hacker". From 2017 he began to get closer to the family legacy leading some projects, and in 2018 he moved to New York to work for one year at the prestigious wine communication agency "Colangelo & partners". In 2019 he embraced his brothers again to give life to the new phase of the Inama family, in search for the maximum expression of the volcanic territory of Soave Classico and the limestone of the Berici Hills. Today Alessio manages to involve with his energy both on social networks and in tastings, coordinates sales in 68 countries, and develops the estate image with care and passion. Connect:  Website: https://www.inama.wine/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/inama_wine/ More about the host: McKenna found her love of wine while serving in a Napa Valley tasting room. She later graduated from the University of Notre Dame and pursued wine on the East Coast with E. & J. Gallo Winery. She has worked in wine distribution for restaurants and luxury retail stores for the past three years. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, McKenna is a Certified Specialist of Wine (2021), Certified Sommelier (2022), and Italian Wine Ambassador (2023). Ep. 2258 Cynthia Chapman | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza

Ep. 2258 Cynthia Chapman | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza

Welcome to Episode 2258 of the Italian Wine Podcast and Everybody Needs a Bit of Scienza, where Professor Scienza takes questions from the international wine community and answers them in his own inimitable way! These shows are generally in the Italian language.  Today’s question comes from Cynthia Chaplin. Today’s question(s):  🇬🇧 Given the fact that we are seeing earlier and earlier harvests due to recent hot summers, what can enologists do to ensure complex and balanced wines in the future?                                                                                                           🇮🇹 Considerando che le recenti estati calde hanno portato a vendemmie sempre più precoci, cosa possono fare gli enologi per garantire in futuro vini complessi ed equilibrati? 🇬🇧 How is climate change affecting natural yeasts and spontaneous fermentation in Italy? Do you think winemakers will need to rely more on the addition of selected yeasts in the future?                                                                                                                                 🇮🇹 In che modo il cambiamento climatico sta influenzando i lieviti naturali e la fermentazione spontanea in Italia? Pensa che in futuro i viticoltori dovranno affidarsi maggiormente all'aggiunta di lieviti selezionati? More about Professor Scienza: Professor Atillio Scienza is the one who checks all the facts and regulates when we mistakenly type “Verdicchio” instead of “Vermentino.” He is a full professor at the University of Milan in the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences where he teaches courses on genetic improvements to the vine; he also teaches Viticulture in the Master’s program of the University of Turin in Asti. He has been the lead for many national research projects in the field of physiology, agricultural techniques, and vine genetics. As the author of over 350 publications on vine and viticulture in national and international journals, you can bet he knows his stuff!
