Francis Weller | Grief Rituals and Soul Hygiene

Francis Weller | Grief Rituals and Soul Hygiene

What if opening yourself to grief could actually help you feel more alive?

This week, Thomas sits down with psychotherapist, writer, and soul activist Francis Weller for a powerful conversation about befriending grief, embracing healing rituals in collective spaces, and the power of the past to transform the future.

It’s so common for people in pain to turn away from it, to avoid their grief and sorrow, or to think that they can muscle through in isolation. But in the deep wisdom that Francis shares here, the opposite is true. Our personal grief, as well as the trauma inherited from our ancestors, yearns for a social container where it can be safely and openly witnessed, processed, and integrated.

The beauty in this is what comes from this relationship to grief, and that’s access to a vast wellspring of inspiration, intuition, and renewed vitality. Francis and Thomas dive deep into how we can open ourselves to these processes and how they can transmute collective sorrow into profound societal transformation.

The second half of Thomas and Francis' conversation will air next week.

Post-Traumatic Learning and Sensitivity | A Q&A Episode

Thomas answers questions submitted by listeners. He explores how post-traumatic learning and growth can occur both individually and collectively. Collective healing is a powerful force that can help our societies evolve by surfacing past wounds that need to be addressed, giving us the opportunity to restore our social ethics, and helping to prevent similar traumatic events from occurring in the future. He also discusses what causes a person to be “highly sensitive,” and how approaches to nervous system regulation and emotional grounding should be tailored to fit the needs of people with this type of refined perception. ✨ Order Thomas’ new book, “Attuned: Practicing Interdependence to Heal Our Trauma–And Our World” here: 👉 https://www.attunedbook.com/  ✨ Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 https://pointofrelationpodcast.com    Thomas Hübl, PhD, is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator who works within the complexity of systems and cultural change, integrating the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science. Zainab Salbi | Self-Kindness in Humanitarian and Climate Work

On this episode of Point of Relation, Thomas is joined by humanitarian, writer, and social entrepreneur Zainab Salbi. They discuss the difficult nature of working in the humanitarian space to address the many injustices that people, particularly women, face worldwide. Zainab explains how being open and vulnerable about her own traumatic experiences gave her the compassion and inspiration needed to tell women’s stories and work to end oppression, systemic violence, and climate change. In a line of work that is so emotionally taxing, she’s learned firsthand how crucial it is to resource yourself with the same kindness you show to others and care for your own emotional well-being. As she puts it, “You can’t give out of an empty well.” Trigger Warning: This episode includes discussion of sexual assault and violence against women. MaryCatherine McDonald | The Intelligence of the Trauma Response

Thomas is joined by PhD trauma researcher, life coach, and the author of "Unbroken", MaryCatherine McDonald. They discuss Dr. McDonald’s work to redefine our understanding of trauma and eliminate the stigma surrounding it. Using scientific research, and through the lens of her own experiences with trauma and grief, Dr. McDonald has developed a definition of trauma that describes it as “an unbearable emotional experience that lacks a relational home.” She and Thomas explore how symptoms of trauma are adaptive rather than pathological, and how feeling ashamed of them inhibits our ability to heal. Dr. McDonald explains that healing is “an evolution and a becoming, not a destination that we arrive at,” and offers insight into how relational attunement and group trauma work can support us on this non-linear path. ✨ Order Thomas Hübl’s new book, “Attuned: Practicing Interdependence to Heal Our Trauma–And Our World” here: 👉 https://www.attunedbook.com/  ✨ Sign up for updates by visiting our website: 👉 https://pointofrelationpodcast.com Thomas Hübl, PhD, is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator who works within the complexity of systems and cultural change, integrating the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science.
