Cincinnati - Is tennis losing a generation?

Cincinnati - Is tennis losing a generation?

Catherine, David and Matt are back to talk about the opening stages of Cincinnati which has seen brutal temperatures, a power outage, and plenty of compelling tennis too.

Part one - ATP Results. We start by taking stock of the careers of Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud after their struggles continued. There’s also Lorenzo Musetti’s poor form on hard courts, both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz immediately going out to practise after their latest victories, another tricky week for Joao Fonseca, and a surprise defeat for Alex de Minaur.

Part two - WTA Results (45m45s). The match of the tournament so far was Aryna Sabalenka’s three hour victory over Emma Raducanu. We discuss Sabalenka’s phenomenal tiebreak record, really encouraging signs for Raducanu, and our impressions of the early glimpses of her coaching partnership with Francisco Roig. There’s also Madison Keys saving match points to win yet again and Amanda Anisimova losing to Anna Kalinskaya.

Part three - Details of our live show in Wrexham on Wednesday 22nd October!

Wimbledon Day 5 - Djokovic 2 Down But Not Out; Todd Woodbridge: 'That Was Kyrgios' Strongest Mental Performance Yet'

Wimbledon Day 5 - Djokovic 2 Down But Not Out; Todd Woodbridge: 'That Was Kyrgios' Strongest Mental Performance Yet'

Novak Djokovic is in big trouble - down two sets to love against the big-hitting American Sam Querrey - and in the opinion of BBC 5 Live commentator Philip Studd, who was sitting just a few feet from the World No.1 as he struggled, the end is nigh for the Serbian at Wimbledon when they resume.  A dramatic fifth day, in which rain again intervened, is reviewed by presenters David Law and Catherine Whitaker, as well as Charlie Eccleshare from the Telegraph, who was writing about the heroic return of Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine courageously overcame Stan Wawrinka in what had been, until Djokovic started to struggle, a major shock. Nine-time Wimbledon doubles champion Todd Woodbridge also joins the show to describe the five-set victory of Nick Kyrgios over Dustin Brown as 'the strongest mental performance of his career'. But how does Woodbridge thing Kyrgios would do if he met Andy Murray in the fourth round?  The Tennis Podcast is a free, downloadable tennis radio show which... Hosted on Acast. Wimbledon Day 4 - Muguruza Crashes; Upsets Galore; Clare Balding Guests

After two days of rain, Wimbledon enjoyed a festival of matches while playing catch-up, and the seeds were falling all over the place on Thursday. Garbine Muguruza went from French Open champion to second round loser at Wimbledon in the space of a few weeks in the biggest upset of the tournament so far. To talk about everything, Catherine Whitaker and David Law are joined by BBC television presenter Clare Balding, who has spent more than two decades covering Wimbledon.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with Telegraph Sport.    Hosted on Acast. Wimbledon Day 3 - Willis Wins Wimbledon Hearts; Federer Prevails; Djokovic Cruises, Konta Canters

Hearts were won on Centre Court on day 3, but for once, not by seven-time champion Roger Federer. His opponent Marcus Willis, ranked 772 in the world, only won seven games, but the combination of his wide-eyed, cheeky-chappie, smiley reaction to getting his Centre Court opportunity was a breath of fresh of air.  Catherine Whitaker and David Law are joined by the Telegraph's Charlie Eccleshare and BBC 5 Live's Philip Studd to discuss it all. Plus, how did Novak Djokovic look? What about the other Brits - Konta, Evans and Watson? And find out what happened when David bumped into umpires Mohamed lahyani and Carlos Barnardes.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with Telegraph Sport. We will have new shows every night during Wimbledon.  Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Wimbledon Day 1 - Marcus Willis Wonderland; Federer Next

Wimbledon Day 1 - Marcus Willis Wonderland; Federer Next

Marcus Willis - British No.23, World No.772 and winner of $64 so far in 2016, faces one of the greatest tennis players ever to pick up a racquet - Roger Federer - in the second round of Wimbledon, and The Tennis Podcast team couldn’t wait to talk about it. Gigi Salmon tells us what it was like to be in amongst the Court 17 crowd, describing the Willis victory scenes for BBC Radio 5 Live. Annabel Croft drops by to share the stories she’s heard about Willis, and to reveal that Garbine Muguruza is a heck of a cook. And presenters David Law and Catherine Whitaker review the rest of eventful opening day in which James Ward performed creditably against Novak Djokovic, Dan Evans won well, and Federer found a way past Guido Pella, eventually. The team also preview day 2 at Wimbledon, when Andy Murray will face Liam Broady, Serena Williams makes her bow, and an ‘aggro-fest’ is expected between Nick Kyrgios and Radek Stepanek.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with... Wimbledon 2016 - Preview; Draws; Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Serena, Muguruza, Brits

Wimbledon is here, the draws are out and The Tennis Podcast team is here to preview the fortnight. Catherine Whitaker and David Law are joined by Simon Briggs, the Telegraph’s Tennis Correspondent, and all three concur on who they see winning the Wimbledon title on the men’s side, with a few disagreements along the way. On the women’s side, no-one seems to agree on anything.  There’s the fairytale run of Marcus Willis, ranked No.775, who has won through 6 matches to make the main draw, and 15 British players in total. The team agree that things are moving in the right direction.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with Telegraph Sport. We will have shows every day during Wimbledon.  Hosted on Acast.
