110: How Your Brain Processes Self-Talk | JASON HAMERA

You know the little voice inside your head — the one you’ve carried around inside you since before you could remember? Call it what you will: your conscience, your subconscious, the inner you. This voice is a part of us, a part of who we are, and we self identify with that voice on an inherent level. Known as self-talk, this internal chatter can be cheerful and supportive or negative and self-defeating. This voice is useful when it is positive, talking down fears and bolstering confidence. Human nature is prone to negative self-talk, however, and to sweeping assertions like “I can’t do anything right” or “I’m a complete #failure."Negative self-talk often does not reflect one's reality, and can paralyze people into inaction and self-absorption. A critical inner voice may be driven by the desire to protect a person from the shame of failure. Some people even credit their inner critic with pushing them to develop self-discipline, and to recognize their weaknesses before others do so that they can address them head on and push forward. Over time, though, the negativity of a critical inner voice takes an emotional toll.My guest Jason Hamera is living proof that positive self-talk leads to success. He goes into this with the science behind self talk in this episode. From belief systems to body language this episode is a must if you are not talking to yourself in a positive way!Find Jason here: https://bit.ly/2P8NizkThe Neuro Athletics Newsletter Instagram: @louisanicola_Twitter : @louisanicola_YouTube: @Louisa NicolaThe Neuro Experience Podcast is proud to have hosted: Dr Andrew Huberman, Dr Gabrielle Lyon, Dr Layne Norton, Thomas DeLauer, Shawn Stevenson, Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen, Saad Alam, Uma Naidoo, Dr. Lanna Cheuck, Angela Lee Pucci, Jillian Turecki, Dr. Jordan Feigenbaum, Dr. Darren Candow, Dr. Sue Varma, Evy Poumpouras, Dr Casey Means, Renee Deehan, Dr Chris Palmer, Dr Charles Brenner, Dr Joe Zundell, Dr Ray Dorsy, Dr Dale Bredeson, Dr. Ben Bikman Learn more about your ad choices.
