46) Anxiety in parenthood and the Importance of Self-Compassion with Erin

In this heartfelt episode, we dive deeper into a topic sparked by an email from Erin, a relocation counsellor, coach, and consultant, who reached out after listening to episode 30: School and Languages.. Erin wanted to explore further the anxiety that both children and parents experience when it’s time for a little one to start school, and how these pivotal moments in our children’s lives also deeply affect us as parents.

While we often focus on supporting our children during transitions, it’s equally important to acknowledge that we, too, need to show ourselves compassion. Starting school can be overwhelming, not only for our kids but also for us—navigating new routines, feeling the pressure of making the right decisions, and managing the anxiety of the unknown. In this episode, Eva and Maren discuss how parents can approach these moments with self-compassion, giving themselves the time and grace they need to process their feelings and not just power through it all.

This episode is a reminder that while we care deeply for our children, we also deserve space to care for ourselves, and it's okay to experience these transitions with vulnerability. Join us as we explore how to approach parenting challenges with more patience and understanding, both for our children and for ourselves.

Key Takeaways:

  • The emotional impact on parents when their children start school

  • Understanding the importance of self-compassion during transitions

  • How to manage anxiety and expectations as a parent during pivotal moments

  • Tips for navigating school-related changes with a balanced mindset
