Thurston County Cat Killer

Thurston County Cat Killer

"Serial killers in the past have often been found to have started with animal torture."

In October 2017, the mutilated body of a cat was found in a rural area outside of Olympia, Washington. At the time, people tried to explain it away. Maybe it was a car. Maybe coyotes. Nobody wanted to consider the alternative.

But as winter turned into 2018, more fragments turned up. Severed limbs in a field outside of Lacey, a suburb outside of Olympia. Another partial body a week later. No witnesses, no clear pattern, just grisly remains. Maybe it was scavengers, some insisted. But the unease had started...

Jack Robinson

Jack Robinson

In August of 1996, newly-retired Jack L. Robinson was prepared to start the next chapter of his life. After spending twenty-five years in the United States Air Force (including a stint in Vietnam) and an additional twenty years as a civil servant working at Moncrief Army Health Clinic in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, Jack had accomplished more than most. On an uneventful summer day, Jack went down to the Rosewood Boat Landing in his old neighborhood of Olympia. This boat ramp, which not many locals were aware of, was hidden behind the rock quarry. Yet Jack found himself there at approximately 6:00 PM on August 17th. He started talking to a younger man, and the two walked into a nearby clearing. Soon, their argument took a violent turn, and Jack was murdered at the hands of this unknown assailant. In this episode, I go through the story, and try to separate the facts from the theories. I also speak to Jack's only child, Tammy, who has kept the case alive online and in the media.  Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal Whelan MusicGraham Bole - "We Are One"Robert Farmer - "Why So Seeming Fast But So Deadly Slow"Cory Gray - "Piano (Anticipation)"Daniel James Dolby - "Broken Things"Borrtex - "Silence"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

Freeman & Bible

Freeman & Bible

On December 29th, 1999, a teenager named Lauria Bible was spending the night with her friend, Ashley Freeman. They were celebrating Ashley's 16th birthday, and it was the first time that Lauria had been allowed over to Ashley's home in a year-and-a-half. The reasoning that Lauria hadn't been allowed over was because Ashley's father, Danny Freeman, had a bit of a reputation. He had long been rumored to have a temper, as well as an abusive relationship with his children: Ashley, as well as her older brother, Shane. Shane had been shot and killed by police months beforehand, sending patriarch Danny further into a downward spiral. At around 6:00 AM, on the morning of December 30th, a passing motorist noticed flames emerging from the Freeman's country home. When police arrived, they found a suspicious scene... but the events that would unfold later on cemented this story as one of the most enduring mysteries of the 21st century. Written by Kristen SkinnerHosted, produced, and additional writing by Micheal WhelanLearn more about the podcast at unresolved.me MusicOriginal music by Monty BucklesRobert Farmer - "I Wonder What The World Is Doing Now"Borrtex - "Wondering"Scott Holmes - "Nostalgic Resonance"Elisa Luu - "Piano 5-1"Parvus Decree - "Gliese 581C"Astral Shit - "Vindicta Lost-Radio Reshape"Borrtex - "One Moment"Kai Engel - "Silence"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Brabant Killers (Part Five: Theories & Suspects II)

The Brabant Killers (Part Five: Theories & Suspects II)

Following the final attack by the Brabant Killers, the police investigation struggled to find any real progress. Suspects like Madani Bouhouche and Robert Beijer came and went, with only tentative ties to extremist groups being found. As the 1980s came to an end, trouble behind-the-scenes spelled trouble for investigators. Prosecutors were sent packing, parliamentary commissions were created and then concluded, and suspects continued to emerge. First came Phillipe de Staercke - a violent thug with a proclivity for violence - who had ties to a well-armed government official, named Jean Bultot. Then came Patrick Haemers, a well-known Belgian criminal who committed suicide in the early 1990s. This episode also details the fledgling investigation as it progressed into the 2000s, and includes some of the more... "outlandish" theories, as well as recent updates that inspire confidence in the survivor's demands for justice.Part five of five.  InfoWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic by T. The Brabant Killers (Part Four: Theories & Suspects I)

The Brabant Killers (Part Four: Theories & Suspects I)

On November 9th, 1985, the Brabant Killers struck for the last time. This attack - which was the bloodiest yet - resulted in eight people dead, seven others injured, and a criminal investigation that was plagued from the very beginning. The Brabant Killers happened to attack in the middle of a very tumultuous time for Belgium. Terrorist organizations were rising up during that time period, from different sides of the political spectrum. The Westland New Post were right-wing extremists, lead by Paul Latinus and Michel Libert... Latinus would commit suicide mysteriously in the early days of 1984, and Libert would be officially questioned by police for Brabant involvement as recently as 2014. Meanwhile, the left-leaning Communist Combatant Cells - who had bombed various targets through 1984 and 1985 - were led by a man named Pierre Carette, who would find himself behind bars at the same time the Brabant attacks ended. As the investigation proceeded, officials began to suspect police involvement. Soon, after the mysterious murder of Juan Mendez in 1986, they found themselves on the heels of two men named Madani Bouhouche and Robert Beijer... both of whom have been suspected as Brabant Killer suspects ever since. Part four of five. InfoWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic by T. NordgrenLearn more about the podcast at unresolved.me Music CreditsDelicasession - "Horizon"Blue Dot Sessions - "Olivia Wraithe" Sponsors- Head to Harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's shave set- Use offer code "UNRESOLVED15" at Sudio SwedenBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Brabant Killers (Part Three: 1985)

Throughout 1982 and 1983, three criminals terrorized the area of Brussels. Starting off with nothing more than ski masks and a single rifle, the three quickly armed themselves with military-grade equipment and became feared for their brutal robberies. In 1984, the Killers disappeared. The public at-large waited for the investigation to make progress, but before long, the "Mad Killers of Belgium" returned to commit their most heinous attacks yet. Part three of five.  InfoWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic and production by T. NordgrenAdditional editing by Elias at e-Audio ProductionsLearn more about the podcast at unresolved.me Music CreditsPipe Choir - "Monachine" Sponsors- Head to Harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's shave set- Head to Sudio Sweden's website and use the offer code "UNRESOLVED15" to save 15% on any pair of headphonesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

The Brabant Killers (Part Two: 1983)

The Brabant Killers (Part Two: 1983)

Throughout 1982, Belgian police were concerned over a rash of strange attacks plaguing the Brussels area. All involved criminals matching the same basic descriptions, but lacked any real motive. They seemed to be the actions of a mysterious gang lashing out... but at something or someone without any real purpose. Going into 1983, these attacks would continue. Worse, they would escalate, with the gang becoming more bold and violent throughout the year. Car jackings, robberies, murders - it seemed like there were no ethical concerns for these mysterious criminals, who would continue to act throughout 1983, before disappearing under mysterious circumstances. Part two of five.  InfoWritten, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanMusic and production by T. NordgrenAdditional editing by Elias at e-Audio ProductionsLearn more about the podcast at unresolved.me Sponsors- Head to harrys.com/unresolved to claim your free Harry's trial shave set- Head to Sudio Sweden's website to use offer code "UNRESOLVED15" to save 15% on any pair of headphonesBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
