Nottingham Forest 3-0 Barnsley: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest continued their winning ways by seeing off bottom side Barnsley in front of a bumper Tuesday evening crowd of 27,000 at The City Ground. After a quiet opening, Forest took the lead on 15 minutes when Keinan Davis dispossed Mads Andersen, before striding through and slotting the ball into the corner for his first goal in a Reds shirt since joining on loan from Aston Villa. Steve Cooper's side doubled their lead seven minutes before the break as Ryan Yates finished off a flowing move, which involved an incisive Jack Colback pass to release Brennan Johnson down the left, where he put a superb cross in which Yates tapped home, timing his run into the box perfectly. A slow start to the second half saw little action but Forest stepped it up again and added a third on 75 minutes. Djed Spence carried the ball down the right flank, seeing off the attention of several Barnsley defenders, he rolled the ball inside where Johnson stroked it first time into the far bottom corner to cap off a comfortable victory. The Reds saw an effort by Steve Cook saved and a Xande Silva strike hit the post as they went on to secure a win which moves them closer to the Championship playoff places. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on Forest's win, including the influence Brennan Johnson is having on the side, how Forest got the job done on the night and Steve Cooper's post-match comments, where he made reference to 'that' Charlton game and was keen to avoid a repeat, following the high of the Derby victory on Saturday. Nottingham Forest 2-1 Derby County: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A derby day that had the lot; a Forest win, drama, memorable goals and even a bust-up at the end! This Saturday lunchtime clash saw Forest secure a 2-1 victory over Derby and extend their unbeaten run against their rivals to 10 matches. Forest lined up without the injured Joe Worrall, so Ryan Yates moved into the back three alongside Steve Cook and Scott McKenna, whilst ex-Derby man Max Lowe made his return from the sidelines at left wing-back. However, an uninsipiring start saw Steve Cooper switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation in the first half, but aside from a huge miss by Derby's Tom Lawrence, the opening 45 didn't offer much. The second half got off to a flyer, as Lewis Grabban netted his third goal in as many games and 13th of the season, pouncing after Cook's attempted shot was blocked into his path. With eight minutes remaining, Brennan Johnson started and finished a fine move, exchanging passes with Philip Zinckernagel before firing into the bottom corner of the net for 2-0. Derby pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Lawrence, at which point the midfielder was barged out of the way by Brice Samba (sporting a headband after a previous accidental clash with the Derby no. 10), sparking a heated clash inside the goal. The visitors, in the midst of their well-publicised off-field issues, couldn't find an equaliser. Ravel Morrison was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Zinckernagel, while at the final whistle another melee broke out as the Forest players and fans enjoyed their victory, with the Reds retaining the Brian Clough Trophy. The Maradona of the Midlands is joined by Baz and Steven to talk over an eventful East Midlands Derby, where they look at the tactical battle of the first half, Forest's improved second half showing, the brilliance of Brennan's goal and Samba having the Derby players on strings. Transfers, tactics and TikTok: The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, January 2022
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We've already had some exciting match reports for you since the turn of the year, but this month's discussion gives us a chance to reflect further on two outstanding results, as the Reds bounced back from Covid and back-to-back league defeats: Tactics: the Arsenal and Millwall victories suggest that Steve Cooper has a blueprint of "keep it solid then strike" - or at least, they do when they have a full squad available. We also discuss how the Reds are able to keep going for 90+ minutes. Transfers: Forest struck early in the window, making two solid-looking signings in Keinan Davis and Steve Cook, with full-back Richmond Laryea following shortly afterwards and Djed Spence seemingly extending his stay at the City Ground. Will there be any outgoings though? We also show appreciation to veteran skipper Lewis Grabban, and compare his captaincy style to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paolo Maldini and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There's still time to pay our respects to local broadcasting legend Colin Slater, discuss a 5-a-side team made up of the kids of ex-Forest players, and Jeremy Davies joins us with his monthly sketch. Plus we have another game of Guess That Red, and you know what - we're on TikTok - how did that happen? Millwall 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. What is it about this Forest team and late goals?! This time it was a 91st minute winner from Lewis Grabban that secured a dramatic victory for Steve Cooper's side at The New Den, after a see-saw second half which saw chances galore for Forest, as well as several opportunities for the hosts, who were twice denied brilliantly by Brice Samba in the Forest net. Grabban replaced Philip Zinckernagel in the starting XI, playing just behind Keinan Davis, but it was Forest who struggled to get much going in the first half, only coming into proceedings just before the break. The Reds were much-improved in the second, with some fluent passing from Ryan Yates and James Garner, the guile of Grabban and Davis and the lively Brennan Johnson causing Millwall all kinds of problems. The game saw plenty of chances come and go for both sides, with Forest in particular forcing good saves out of Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal and seeing efforts cleared off the line, before Grabban stepped up with minutes remaining to send the travelling Forest fans wild. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest's staying power once again came to the fore. They talk about the importance of Lewis Grabban to the side, how the Reds approached the game in the right manner as well as the belief and determination that the team continues to show under Cooper. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Well, that was enjoyable wasn't it?! Forest knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup in the third round again with a memorable victory on Trentside. On a night where the Reds delivered a superb team performance, Lewis Grabban netted the deciding goal on 83 minutes when he steered home a terrific cross from the right by Ryan Yates, giving Steve Cooper's Forest a victory that left The City Ground crowd delighted. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest were committed, resolute but also threatening when they had the ball. They talk about the promising debuts of new signings Steve Cook and Keinan Davis, how Cooper set Forest up to go on and win the game, as well as the continued brilliance of Djed Spence, who impressed fans up and down the country with his display. The result means Forest will be back in cup action at the beginning of Feburary, when they face neighbours and holders Leicester City in the fourth round. Nottingham Forest 0-1 Huddersfield Town: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It's a bit of a shock to the system to lose two matches in a row after the run that Forest have been on since Chris Hughton left, but a Covid-disrupted Reds team will feel that they should have got at least a point, and probably three, out of this one - they certainly had enough chances. Baz is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Huddersfield only had three real shots on target, but scored the only goal; whereas Forest just couldn't put the ball in the net. Was Steve Cooper out-manoeuvred tactically by Carlos Corberan, or was the defeat down to the lack of depth in the Forest squad? Despite the disappointing last few days, we are still optimistic for the New Year. We want to thank you for listening and wish you all a healthy and happy new year. Middlesbrough 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We knew this would happen eventually, and today Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough were tactically and physically superior to Forest for 90% of the match. A woeful own goal by Ryan Yates gave the hosts the lead, and they really should have scored three or four before the break. Forest had a good ten minute spell on the hour, but Philip Zinckernagel and Joe Worrall were off target, and Andraz Sporar put the game to bed shortly afterwards. Rich Ferraro and the Maradona of the Midlands discuss the game, in particular the full-back positions, Steve Cooper's tactical options, and introduction of Joao Carvalho and Xande Silva from the bench.
