Nottingham Forest 1-1 Liverpool: The 1865 Match Report, January 2025

Nottingham Forest 1-1 Liverpool: The 1865 Match Report, January 2025

It was another special night at the City Ground, even if the Reds did well to hold on for a point, albeit against arguably the best team in Europe. Things got off to a flyer with Chris Wood's early strike, and Forest held their own until sub Diogo Jota scored with his first touch. Forest then had to show true grit and resilience (and some great saves from Matz Sels) to earn the point on a night that left players and fans exhausted. Our match report is brought to you by The Maradona Of The Midlands and George Edwards, with a view from the away end coming from Neil Atkinson of the excellent Anfield Wrap (who you can also find on the Sports Social Podcast Network). We'll be back with our Friday 5 news roundup and Southampton preview at the end of the week. Forest got the job done with a relatively comfortable cup win over plucky Luton, with goals from Ryan Yates and Ramón Sosa. The away team did have some chances, but Forest could have scored more as well, and considering that the Reds made eleven changes to the team, and got Danilo back on the pitch, half a season after his badly broken ankle. George Edwards is joined by Tom Newton to talk about the match, the problems in the Bridgford End, and also to preview the forthcoming top of the table clash against Liverpool. Friend of the pod Ryan McCole joins us for a view from the opposition, and of course, we will be back with our report after Tuesday night's big game. Forest scored goals at crucial times, with Morgan Gibbs-White scoring early, and Chris Wood at the end of the first half, before Taiwo Awoniyi finally got his goal in stoppage time to seal the win. Wolves did threaten but weren't sharp enough in front of goal and Matz Sels kept out the rest. Tom Newton reports back from Molineux, and along with Rich Ferraro debates the tactics and what made Forest great in this one. Unfortunately we also have to discuss the vile chanting aimed at Morgan Gibbs-White and his family, before thinking ahead to the Luton cup match. We are grateful to Dave Azzopardi from Talking Wolves, who provides the view from the opposition. Forest won away, making it five on the bounce, and putting them into second place in the Premier League! A goal and an assist for Chris Wood showcased the Reds' ability on the counter-attack, with Morgan Gibbs-White getting the second, and it could have been more with Sosa, Williams, Elanga and Awoniyi forcing decent saves from Jordan Pickford. A toothless Everton were no match for Milenković and Morato at centre back. George Edwards reports back from Goodison, with a view from the home end by a rather frustrated Mike from the Unholy Trinity Podcast. Presented by Rich Ferraro with The 1865 Podcat. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur: The 1865 Match Report

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur: The 1865 Match Report

It was a misty afternoon on the banks of the Trent and a Happy Christmas for Reds fans, who watched their team climb to third in the table with a victory over Spurs. As ever, it was built on defensive resolve and counter-attacking might, with Anthony Elanga getting the decisive strike. At the other end, former Red Brennan Johnson came closest, but his promotion-winning alumnus Djed Spence was probably pick of the visiting players, despite his late sending off. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the game, the tactics and the yellow cards! We'll be back after the Everton game on the 29th - come on you Reds!
