A former Sinn Féin party press officer who was convicted of sexually communicating online with accounts he believed were children has been released from prison but has been told he is not welcome back to his native Derry.

Michael McMonagle's crimes shocked those who knew him and caused a political fallout in Sinn Féin when it emerged two members had written references for him for another job in a charity as he awaited trial.

He got nine months for the offences, but now that he is out, Allison Morris tell Nicola he faces the greatest punishment of his life as he remains friendless, homeless, jobless, and has few family members who still speak to him.
