Ep. 2457 Alberto Rivera IWA interviews Stefano Campaniello of Morra Gabriele winery in Piemonte | Clubhouse Ambassadors' Corner

Welcome to Clubhouse’s Ambassadors’ Corner and Episode 2457 of the Italian Wine Podcast. In this episode, Alberto Rivera IWA interviews Stefano Campaniello of Morra Gabriele winery in Piemonte. These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and reproduced here for the Italian Wine Podcast. Key Learning Objectives: How Stefano’s international sommelier background shaped his path as a winemaker while honoring Langhe traditions. How he introduces lesser-known Langhe grapes to customers beyond Nebbiolo. How his passion drives a fresh, contemporary style at Morra Gabriele winery and its future projects. More about our Co-host: Alberto Rivera IWA majored in International Relations and worked as a diplomat in Tokyo, as well as under a United Nations mandate to promote the Sustainable Development Goals within Chihuahua’s regional policies. After the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, he decided to take his passion for wine tasting to a professional level. He completed the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and followed his love for Italy by combining these interests as an Italian wine instructor on an online education platform in Mexico. Last year, he set his sights on earning the title of Italian Wine Ambassador, which he achieved in April 2024. It remains one of the proudest milestones of his wine journey, especially as one of the youngest candidates to pass the exam. Today, he’s a professional wine educator and consultant based in Chihuahua, Mexico. Raised in Milan with a passion for wine, he spent between 20s to 30s working in France, Spain, and England, immersing himself in vineyards and fine dining restaurants. After further experiences in Italy, Stefano finally achieved his dream of producing his own wine. In 2012, he acquired his first Nebbiolo grapes in Barbaresco, and in 2013, he co-founded Morra Gabriele winery with his friend Gabriele. Starting with small-scale production in his home garage - much to the delight of his neighbors - the winery has grown to produce six labels, totaling around 30,000 bottles. A philosophy of quality over quantity guides Stefano's approach: "Poco e buono" (less is more) is the motto that defines his winemaking ethos." The Morra Gabriele winery is located in the Piedmont region of Italy, specifically in the Barbaresco and Roero areas, which are part of the famous Langhe hills known for high-quality red wines, such as those made from the Nebbiolo grape. The winery was originally established in 1880 and was formerly known as Pautasso Vini. Today, the winery is run by Gabriele Testa and Stefano Campaniello. Gabriele is known as a typical piemontese farmer who has been working in the vineyards most of his life. Stefano is a sommelier who has spent time working in fine dining restaurants in France, Spain, London and Italy, as well as traveling the European wine regions to understand the secrets of great wines.
