Runway Room | Uncovering the secrets of the beauty industry

Runway Room | Uncovering the secrets of the beauty industry

The beauty industry has a dirty secret—it’s probably already in your bloodstream.

This was the revelation that left Kiarne stunned during her conversation with Runway Room Founder and CEO, Alex Fevola.

In 2012, Alex recognised a gap in the market for a beauty salon that offered reliable, high-quality hair and makeup services for everyone—not just the rich and famous.

During this journey, she started to question the quality and ingredients of the products she used, as well as what she was applying to her clients’ faces. This led her to create her own range of high-quality products, formulated in Australia - and Runway Room Cosmetics was born.

In this episode, Kiarne and Alex dive into the unsettling truths behind the cosmetic products and packaging we use daily, exploring what drove Alex to approach her product development differently from the very beginning.

This eye-opening conversation sheds light on the beauty industry’s encouragement of mindless overconsumption and its impact on our health.

Think all major cosmetics brands must be good for you? Think again!

Key Discussion Points:

  • Origins of Runway Room - Alex takes us through her journey from starting as a makeup artist and photographer to founding Runway Room in 2012, witnessing a huge transformation in the cosmetics industry.

  • Raising the bar for more ethical beauty - Runway Room has recently established its sustainability range, which sets an example for bigger cosmetics brands to embed sustainability in their values.

  • Challenges in the Cosmetics Industry - Alex explains more about the horrifying ingredients that are likely to be in your makeup products, including PFAS and Talc.

  • Sustainable innovation - A focus on product development and innovations in sustainable, refillable and long-lasting packaging solutions and the challenges along the way
