026: Turning a Passion for Functional Fitness into a Purposeful Career with Angelique Sanabria

In this episode, I sat down with Angelique Sanabria, a fitness coach and personal trainer, about her journey to living her purpose. Angelique shares her story of shifting passions and self-discovery, and how she found fulfillment in teaching exercise and helping others achieve their goals. A big part of her Purpose is teaching the importance of functional movement, mobility, and stability, and how exercise is not just about aesthetics, but also about overall health and well-being.

Angelique Sanabria:


Originally from Queens, NY Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach Angelique Sanabria lives her purpose daily to improve the quality of people's lives through strength training, habit change, and overall, lifestyle change. Her approach is through a sustainable and enjoyable process, combining her client's goals with her holistic outlook. Starting her career at Equinox she discovered the importance of listening to client’s goals and assessing their current fitness level in order to create individualized progressive programs that work. Her experience with Equinox created a foundation to eventually begin her own independent Personal Training business: MDRN MVMNT FITNESS. Her goal as a coach is to create a healthier shift in mindset for anyone who struggles with body image and/or exercise addiction, along with lack of motivation and strength training knowledge. What brought her to this point was struggling for many years with unhealthy eating patterns, overcompensating those eating patterns with an unhealthy amount of exercise (specifically cardio), and not having any of the knowledge herself or the tools to strength train correctly. She lacked the understanding as to why strength training is so important beyond achieving an aesthetic goal. Now, she has the privilege every day to work with people who are curious to learn more about their bodies and how to achieve their fitness goals and maintain them long-term. Apart from Personal Training Angelique has been a coach with Orangetheory Fitness for almost three years now.


Outside of fitness she loves a good self-help book (currently reading The 5AM Club), values the friendships in her life, enjoys cycling outside –as it never fails to immediately boost her mood– and naturally, as a Sagittarius, loves to travel and explore. She’s always craving to learn new things and educate herself on topics she doesn’t know enough about. One of her favorite quotes: "It is not about the destination, it's about the journey.” Final fun fact: She has been vegan for 11 years now.
