This week, Amy and Chris discuss a few horrifying cases that have contributed to their real-life fears.First, Chris details a case he has a personal connection with, the disappearance of Etan Patz, a 6-year-old boy who disappeared in Manhattan, in the neighborhood where Chris grew up. Etan was taken at some point when he was allowed to walk from his home to the school bus, but Etan never made it to school. Currently Pedro Hernandez is sitting behind bars for Etan's murder, but Etan's remains have never been found, and not everyone is convinced that Hernandez was responsible.Then, Amy brings you the case that is still giving her nightmares, the terrible crimes of the South Hill Rapist, Frederick Harlan Coe AKA Kevin Coe, who committed his crimes in Amy's hometown of Spokane, Washington. Coe's brutal attacks on women were so brutal, they bordered on attempted murder. Coe targeted joggers in the Spokane area and assaulted women for years before being caught. But sometimes those reviews hide something sinister.This week, Amy and Chris talk you through the terrifying case of Todd Kohlhepp, otherwise known as the Amazon Review Killer due to him leaving reviews on the popular commerce site for items that he used to murder at least 7 people. Todd was caught after they were able to track down a missing woman, Kala Brown, to his property. Kala was found chained inside of a storage container and having endured untold horrors for weeks. This opened an investigation into Todd that revealed a pattern of kidnapping people, locking them into a storage container, and torturing them. This week, Amy and Chris profile 3 women who were all convicted of murdering their own children in gruesome fashion.In the first case, Chris discusses the murder of 5-year-old Damon Routier in 1996. Darlie Routier, Damon's mother, called 911 claiming that someone broke in and stabbed her and her children. But several inconsistencies led to Darlie being convicted of the murder and sentenced to death. Seems like an open and shut case, but there are many that believe Darlie is innocent and should be let out of prison. Darlie's other son Devon was also murdered, but Darlie was not tried for his death.In the second case, Amy discusses the case of Elizabeth Diane Downs who attempted to kill all of her children just to maintain an affair. Diane staged an attempted carjacking, shooting all her children and herself, then slowly drove them to a hospital. Her 7-year-old daughter Cheryl, was killed and her other 2 surviving children were permanently injured.And finally, arguably the most famous case of infanticide, Chris details the tragic case of Andrea Yates, the woman who drowned her children in the bathtub in Texas, claiming that Satan had instructed her to do so. If you've watched the recent iteration of the "Candyman" film, you might've been intrigued by the post-credits scene involving cryptic animations. Well, as you may have guessed, there are some truly horrendous true crime stories showcased, and Amy and Chris do a deep dive so you don't have to.The first case is of 14-year-old George Stinney, who became the youngest person ever executed in the United States for the murder of 2 young girls after he confessed. George had to be propped up on a Bible in order to reach the electric chair, but it is now clear that his confession was coerced from him through the use of starvation and other nefarious techniques.In the second case, Chris details the truly gruesome hate crime against James Byrd, who was tortured and lynched by dragging him around in their truck by 3 white supremacists after offering James a ride across town. This senseless act sparked outrage in the community and led to 2 of the 3 men being sentenced to death, the first case in modern Texas history of white men being sentenced to death for the killing of a black person.And in the final case, Amy and Chris bring you the case that inspired both the 1994 and 2021 versions of the film, the murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy. Ruthie had severe mental illness and was known around town for talking to herself and yelling at passersby. On April 22, 1987, attackers entered her home through a secret entrance behind her bathroom cabinet and murdered Ruthie while she called 911. When police arrived and no one answered, they simply left without checking on Ruthie.
