Parallel Lives: Erasmus and Holbein (Series)

Parallel Lives: Erasmus and Holbein (Series)

In this episode, we explore the unexpected connections between Hans Holbein, the great portraitist of the Tudor age, and Desiderius Erasmus, the humanist scholar whose ideas shaped an era. Though one wielded a brush and the other a pen, both were master observers of humanity—capturing the spirit, intellect, and anxieties of the Renaissance. Join us as we compare their worlds, their patrons, and the ways their work continues to define how we understand early modern Europe.

Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth - Part Six (Queens Series)

Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth - Part Six (Queens Series)

This season I'll tell you the story written by Lucy Aikin (1781-1864) called Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth. If you are a fan of Elizabeth I then you'll appreciate this early 19th century (1818) sentiment. In this episode, we will jump forward a little to the 1580s to see how the 19c observer portrayed Elizabeth as she aged. We see her reaction to her ladies wanting to marry, and when those nearest displeased her, we hear her response. We also see more of Elizabeth and Dudley's relationship, how he once again was lavished with power as the Queen's favorite, and how she behaved after jealousy set in. Then we look at the trial of Mary, Queen of Scots. Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth (Public Domain) -- Commercial FREE for patrons! Love the Tudors? Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth - Part Five (Queens Series)

This season I'll tell you the story written by Lucy Aikin (1781-1864) called Memoirs of the Court of Queen Elizabeth. If you are a fan of Elizabeth I then you'll appreciate this early 19th century (1818) sentiment. In this episode, we will jump forward a little in time to the year 1573. By now, Mary, Queen of Scots, had married and buried Lord Darnley, and she had also married Lord Bothwell and abdicated her throne. At this point, Mary had already been Elizabeth's prisoner for years. They would number 19 in all, but at this point, it was still early on. So let's look at what the 19th-century observer had to say about Elizabeth's reaction to the Scottish queen and her favorite's trouble with Lady Sheffield.
