Specialized Aethos 2, next-gen Shimano pedals leaked, UCI cost caps and more…

In this week’s BikeRadar news podcast, Jack Luke is once again joined by Simon von Bromley to discuss the latest hot stories in bike tech. We kick things off with a Shimano leak that suggests the Japanese brand may be working on a set of power meter pedals for its next generation road groupsets. Next, we move on to the new Specialized Aethos 2, which has been updated to include full integrated cable routing, wider tyre clearance and a less aggressive geometry. It’s also as light and expensive as ever, of course. We also discuss Tadej Pogačar’s tricked-out Colnago Y1Rs from the Rwanda world championships, and speculate why the Slovenian rider switched to Continental’s new Archetype tyres for this race. Finally, instead of ending with a ‘rant of the week’, Simon and Jack give a rare shoutout to the UCI for its recently announced cost cap for track cycling bikes and equipment, which will be introduced ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics Games in 2028. I've spotted an unreleased Shimano pedal system – and it looks like the product we've been waiting … The Aethos 2 is the lightest production bike Specialized has ever made at 5.98kg UCI announces price caps for 2028 Olympic track bikes and equipment Tadej Pogačar's tricked-out Colnago Y1Rs for the Rwanda World Championships – new tyres, custom whe… Learn more about your ad choices. New tyre bonanza! Rad mountain bikes! Fancy lube! BikeRadar news round-up

In this episode of the BikeRadar Podcast, Jack Luke, Tom Law and Simon von Bromley look back at the biggest cycling tech news from the last oh-so-busy few weeks.  Among a deluge of other news, we’ve seen no fewer than three headline road bike tyre launches from Pirelli, Specialized and Vittoria. Resident tyre nerd Simon gives us the lowdown on everything we need to know about these sweet new treads.  CeramicSpeed has also released a new super-fancy lube designed for super-long rides in super-bad weather (just in time for summer in the Northern Hemisphere). The trio discuss this new slippery ointment – or, more accurately, listen to Simon extol the virtues of immersion waxing for the zillionth time.  Finally, Tom tries to explain what makes the Forbidden Druid trail bike interesting to Jack and Simon – a pair of smooth-brained roadies who don’t know an idler pivot from a kickback. MTB’s unsung hero components

MTB’s unsung hero components

When we test a bike, it’s easy to give a nod of approval to a frame, fork, drivetrain or brake, but it’s often the finishing touches that really ‘make’ a bike.  In this episode, senior technical editor Tom Marvin, digital writer Nick Clark and video presenter Tom Law pick out the components that rarely hog the limelight, but really deserve some time in the spotlight. In turn, this is an appreciation of the rarely praised product manager – the person who’s ridden test mules and studied OEM spec offerings and picked some praiseworthy components.
