Whereas with the other kind of depression, where people are reactive to life, either over a long period or fairly quickly, reactive to negative events, you can often use psychological treatments very successfully. If it's mild or moderate you can try treating your depression with psychological techniques. But if it isn't mild or moderate, but it's moderate or severe, you should really consider taking medication."

"Medication doesn't treat an underlying problem, but it gives you an opportunity to address all these personality issues that people bring to the table when they have depression."
