Jeffrey Epstein And The Narrative Surrounding His Death

According to the official account, on August 10, 2019, financier and convicted sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan. The New York City medical examiner concluded his death was a suicide by hanging, and a subsequent DOJ Inspector General probe found no evidence that someone else entered the cell or caused his death.

At the same time, the report noted major failures in jail protocols: Epstein was left alone (no cellmate), required hourly checks by guards were skipped, the guards’ logs were falsified, and parts of the video surveillance were malfunctioning or not recorded. While the negligence was serious, the IG did not assert that Epstein’s death was homicide.
