Jon Kabat-Zinn – Attitudes of Mindfulness (Part 1).

Jon Kabat-Zinn – Attitudes of Mindfulness (Part 1).

In this three-part series, the Moonshots Podcast takes a deep dive into the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, the creator of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). This foundational framework—The 7 Attitudes of Mindfulness—offers practical, timeless guidance for living with greater awareness, clarity, and emotional intelligence.

Whether you're seeking more presence in your personal life, resilience in your work, or deeper insight into yourself, this series explores how to build those capacities through the simple, yet powerful principles of mindfulness.

Episode 280 – Part 1: Beginner’s Mind, Non-Judging, and Acceptance

In the first episode of the series, Mike and Mark unpack the first three attitudes in Jon Kabat-Zinn’s model. These core concepts help shape how we relate to ourselves, others, and the present moment.

1. Beginner’s Mind (Clip: 2m08)
Kabat-Zinn encourages us to approach each moment as if it were new, free from assumptions and past experiences. The idea is to cultivate a fresh, curious perspective—even toward familiar situations. This mindset opens the door to deeper learning, more meaningful relationships, and renewed appreciation for the everyday.

Key insight: When we let go of the belief that we already know, we create space for true discovery.

2. Non-Judging (Clip: 3m35)
Modern life trains us to evaluate everything constantly—our performance, thoughts, feelings, and the world around us. Kabat-Zinn teaches that non-judging is the practice of noticing these thoughts without getting caught up in them. It’s not about suppressing judgment but becoming aware of its automatic nature and choosing not to engage with it.

Key insight: By observing our thoughts without attaching labels, we create the mental freedom to respond instead of react.

3. Acceptance (Clip: 2m46)
Acceptance is often misunderstood as passivity. Kabat-Zinn reframes it as an active engagement with reality. Instead of resisting what is happening, we learn to meet it fully. This doesn’t mean we approve of everything—it means we begin with clarity and honesty, which is the first step toward meaningful change.

Key insight: Acceptance allows us to stop fighting reality and start responding to it with intention.

Why These Attitudes Matter

Beginner’s mind, non-judging, and acceptance form the bedrock of a mindful life. Practiced together, they help reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and improve emotional regulation. These are not abstract ideas—they are habits of attention and perception that anyone can develop.

This episode offers real-world reflections and actionable takeaways to begin integrating mindfulness into your daily routine.

Rapid Prototyping Your Product Before You Build It

Hello members and subscribers! The eleventh Moonshots Master episode is here and we are diving into Entrepreneurship and Rapid Prototyping!!Rapidly getting us into the mindset of trying and testing, we start with Walt Disney as he discusses how to use prototyping to find success. We then hear from the genius of Dyson, Sir James Dyson, who reflects on how the journey to innovation takes time. We are fully inspired after hearing Tom Wujec’s breakdown on how digital and physical methods of building products are uniting into the Future of Making. Now we’re ready to prototype, let’s learn from Whittlesea Tech School as they help inform what makes a prototype different to a product, and a description of what exactly a prototype is. We revisit Sir James Dyson again, as he speaks on the importance of prototypes to prove your technology works, as well as how to embrace and track failures. In our final chapter we dig into the Sprint process with Jake Knapp, who breaks down how to begin prototyping with your team today. We also hear from Angus Deveson from Maker's Muse as he discusses how to create and build physical prototypes that you should test to failure. We end our deep dive into rapid prototyping with the superstar himself, Tom Chi, who relives a story on iterating and stress testing any business model, and how it is the true essence of entrepreneurship. Ken Robinson: The Element

Ken Robinson: The Element

The Element is the point at which natural talent meets personal passion. When people arrive at the Element, they feel most themselves and most inspired and achieve at their highest levels. With a wry sense of humor, Ken Robinson looks at the conditions that enable us to find ourselves in the Element and those that stifle that possibility. Drawing on the stories of a wide range of people, including Paul McCartney, Matt Groening, Richard Branson, Arianna Huffington, and Bart Conner, he shows that age and occupation are no barrier and that this is the essential strategy for transforming education, business, and communities in the twenty-first century"The Element offers life-altering insights about the discovery of your true best self." --Stephen R. Elon Musk - Habits of Success

Elon Musk - Habits of Success

Elon Musk is unstoppable! He's the most prolific and productive CEO of our times - he's even a bit cheeky. That's why we love him at the Moonshots Podcast. With his recent purchase of Twitter, he is now involved in over five revolutionary companies. So, we ask, 'how does Elon do it?'.Elon Musk co-founded the electronic payment firm PayPal and founded the spacecraft company SpaceX. He also is the founder of The Boring Company, and co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI. And recently purchased social media giant Twitter.Musk's recent purchase of Twitter for $44 billion was widely covered around the globe. What isn't perhaps known is Musk's ability to multitask and focus on one business at a time truly; when the world was discussing Twitter, Musk was working with his engineers at SpaceX on rock engine "valve leak solutions".INTRO (WHY NOW?)Joe Rogan reflects on the purchase and why free speech mattersJoe Reacts to Elon Musk Buying Twitter (1m44)Elon Musk and the head of TED, Chris Anderson, talk open source Twitter at TED2022 this monthElon Musk Talks About His Plans for Twitter at TED (59s)PRODUCTIVITYElon Musk at SXSW breaks down his 'boring' approach to creativity and product creation.Be a doer (1m39)THINKING ABOUT PROBLEMSElon Musk's SATELLITE 2020 Opening Day Keynote, where he honestly (comedically) breaks down problem-solvingUse management by rhyming (48s)Mohammad Al Gergawi, in a conversation with Elon Musk during WGS17, discussed the art of collaboration.Have a great team (1m02)RESILIENCE (OUTRO)Elon Musk talks to Axios about Tesla being close to death during the production of Model 3Be willing to make sacrifices (1m06)READINGElon Musk: How the billionaire CEO of SpaceX and Tesla is shaping our future by Ashlee Vance Thanks to our monthly supporters Mike Edwin Deitch Jamie Dorward Emily Rose Banks Malcolm Magee Natalie Ryan N.
