Parallel Lives: Anne Boleyn & Kateryn Parr

Parallel Lives: Anne Boleyn & Kateryn Parr

In this episode of Parallel Lives, Rebecca Larson and Dr. Emma Cahill Marron explore two of Henry VIII’s most remarkable queens — Anne Boleyn and Kateryn Parr — women separated by time but united by intellect, conviction, and courage.

Both shaped the English Reformation in deeply personal ways: Anne, through her daring advocacy of new religious ideas that forever changed the Church; and Kateryn, through her writings, diplomacy, and devotion that helped keep reform alive in Henry’s final years. Each challenged what it meant to be a queen — not through submission, but through scholarship, conscience, and faith.

Join us as we uncover how these two women influenced England’s future — and how their legacies intertwined in the education and spirit of Elizabeth I.

The Tower of London with Tara Ball

The Tower of London with Tara Ball

I must begin with two apologies. The first being that I may sound a bit different this week as I've been battling a cold. Secondly, there was a technical difficulty in my attempt to record this interview with Tara Ball, Warden at the Tower of London. Since I was unable to record an actual interview as I usually do, Tara was kind enough to take the questions I had prepared and record her answers for me. Regardless of the setback, I believe you will truly enjoy this episode as you do all the others. Tara does a marvelous job conveying the history of the Tower. Interview with Author Margaret George

Interview with Author Margaret George

Awhile ago, on Facebook, I asked for suggestions on guests to have on the show. One of my followers (I wish I could recall who it was to thank them) requested Margaret George. At the time I believed she was unattainable. One day I worked up the nerve to contact her and ask - what was the worst that would happen, right? I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that she was interested. This was many, many, many months ago. Today, I finally talked to her and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. On today’s episode I welcome another one of my favorite authors, Margaret George. Margaret and I talk about her novels: The Autobiography of Henry VIII, Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles and Elizabeth I. We discussed where her love of history originated as well as the history behind her books. We talk about the ridiculous 72,000 people Henry VIII executed, Katheryn Howard, the TV series The Spanish Princess and even Thomas Seymour (I didn't expect it). Be sure to stick around until the end to discover something you may not have known about this prolific author. Order her books directly from her website with links to print and ebook version to by on any platform:  https://margaretgeorge.com/books/  Amazon US:  https://www.amazon.com/Margaret-George/e/B000AQ3VTG/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1  -- To become a patron: Patreon.com/TudorsDynasty click "Become a Patron" Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson & Margaret George Produced by: Rebecca Larson Imaging by: Troy Larson Music Credits:  Music from https://filmmusic.io "Folk Round" by Kevin MacLeod (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)
