Ep. 19 Mindfulness in the Margins: Finding Presence in Your Busiest Moments

Ep. 19 Mindfulness in the Margins: Finding Presence in Your Busiest Moments

Which mindfulness moment will you try today—the bathroom breakthrough, meeting transition, notification meditation, or gratitude sip? Welcome to The Legal Yogi Podcast, where we explore simple, powerful ways to stay grounded amid life’s chaos. I’m your host, Vanisha Weatherspoon. Today’s micro episode discusses finding presence, even on your busiest days. You don’t need an extended meditation or a retreat to feel centered. Whether it’s the “bathroom breakthrough,” a “meeting transition,” or turning your notifications into mindfulness cues, small, intentional moments can reset your nervous system and bring calm into your day. Plus, we’ll explore how a simple “gratitude sip” during your coffee break can reduce stress and lift your mood. Let’s dive in and discover how to bring mindfulness into your hectic schedule.

IN THIS EPISODE:

  • (00:00) We live in a world of stress, but there is good news
  • (01:56) Number one practice to reset your nervous system is the bathroom breakthrough
  • (06:17) Number two is the meeting transition technique to practice mindfulness
  • (08:21) Number three is a notification meditation
  • (10:39) Number four is the gratitude sip
  • (13:12) Mindfulness isn't about escaping your work life; it's about being fully present for it.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Even five minutes (or less!) of intentional breathing or awareness can disrupt your stress cycle and reset your nervous system. You don’t need long meditations to feel a shift—quick pauses throughout the day, like the "bathroom breakthrough" or "meeting transition," can be surprisingly powerful.
  • Sneak mindfulness into your busiest days—whether it’s using the bathroom as a quiet space, resetting between Zoom calls, or turning everyday annoyances (like notifications) into mindfulness cues. These practices help you stay emotionally balanced without drawing attention.
  • The “gratitude sip” turns your coffee or water break into a grounding moment. Combining gratitude or affirmations with a daily ritual can boost feel-good chemicals, reduce stress, and create small, healing moments, critical during emotional pain or personal growth.

Ep. 18 Healing Out Loud: Grief, Growth, and Getting Through It

ABOUT THE HOST:

Vanisha is an RYT 500 and lives in Austin, TX. She began her yoga journey in 2017 during her 1L year at Georgetown Law. The first year of law school is the hardest and is often the gateway for the bad habits that run high among legal professionals. Lawyers are at an extremely high risk of alcoholism, drug abuse and dependency, anxiety and depression, so Vanisha turned to yoga to avoid falling victim to one of the former. It was here on her mat where she found peace, which led her to want to bring this to her law school community. Vanisha became a certified instructor during the summer of her 2L year of law school and began teaching classes on Georgetown’s campus in the fall of her 3L year. Upon graduation, she obtained her 300-hour certification in 2020 and moved back to Austin, where she teaches yoga and practices law as a 5th-year associate at a law firm.
