Abducted by strangers? | Missing children Michael Vaughan & Dulce Alavez

Abducted by strangers? | Missing children Michael Vaughan & Dulce Alavez

You can probably make a list of high profile missing child cases that you’ve heard of over the years - Cleo Smith, Elizabeth Smart and even Caylee Anthony.

But there are thousands of missing children that slip through the cracks of the system, every single day. In 2020 in the US, over 30,000 juveniles were reported missing.

In the first episode of the True Crime Society podcast for 2022, we discuss the cases of missing children Michael ‘Monkey’ Vaughan and Dulce Alavez.

Michael is a 5 year old, boisterous little boy who loved monster trucks and playing in the dirt. He was playing Nintendo in July 2021, when his dad left the room to attend to Michael’s baby sister. When his father returned, Michael was gone. Now, six months later, no trace of Michael has been found and police believe he may have been abducted.

In September 2019 in Bridgeton, NJ, Dulce Alavez and her little brother Manuel were treated to an ice cream by their mother, Noema. They then went to the local playground to use the swings. Noema helped a relative with some homework and when she looked up, Manuel’s ice cream was on the ground and he was crying. Dulce was nowhere to be seen. More than two years later, Dulce remains missing. Police have released both a sketch of a possible suspect and an age progressed image of Dulce, to no avail.

We also discuss the current case of missing child Lina Khil. Lina went missing from a playground in San Antonio , TX in December 2021 . Her mother allegedly turned away to get some water and Lina vanished within minutes.

Love Triangles Gone Wrong | Kaitlin Armstrong, Moriah Wilson, & Colin Strickland

Love Triangles Gone Wrong | Kaitlin Armstrong, Moriah Wilson, & Colin Strickland

Anna Moriah Wilson (known as Mo) was considered to be one of the best competitive cyclists in the US, if not the world.  She had the world at her feet.  She was young and successful. She had recently quit her job and was going to focus on gravel racing full time.  Everyone who knew her said that she was kind, ambitious and compassionate. Mo traveled to Austin on May 10, 2022.  She was planning to compete in a race the following weekend.  On May 11, she met up with Colin Strickland, another well-known cyclist.  The couple were involved in a brief relationship a few months prior to May 2022.  They spent a few hours together, swimming and going to a restaurant, before Colin dropped Mo back to the residence where she was staying. As Mo walked in the door, she was ambushed and shot multiple times.  Mo died on the scene from her injuries.  The killer fled from the scene on Mo’s bicycle. This was no random attack.  The alleged killer is Kaitlin Armstrong, Colin Strickland’s long-term partner. Kaitlin is now on the run from authorities and is wanted for murder.  She was last seen at Newark Airport on May 18. Join us for this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast where we discuss two different love triangle murders – the death of Mo Wilson and the horrific murder of Jonathan Amerault. The Murder of Brittanee Drexel

The Murder of Brittanee Drexel

Brittanee Drexel was 17 years old in 2009 when she left her home in Rochester, NY to go on a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.  Her mother had forbade her to go, but in a decision that would alter the course of her life, she went anyway. Brittanee’s eerie last movements in Myrtle Beach were caught on CCTV.  She had been texting with her boyfriend back home and was telling him that she was having a miserable time.  She was looking forward to getting back to New York.  All of a sudden, Brittanee stopped texting and was never heard from again. The search for Brittanee spanned over 13 years.  Her mother even moved to Myrtle Beach to be able to keep up the search for her.   Brittanee’s case is one that involved many false leads and false information, putting detectives on the wrong track for years.   In May 2022, just when the case seemed to be totally cold, there was an unexpected break.  Brittanee’s remains were found after sex offender Raymond Moody confessed to murdering her back in 2009. In this episode we discuss the abduction and murder of Brittanee Drexel.  Read our blog for this case - https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2022/05/29/the-murder-of-brittanee-drexel/ This episode is sponsored by:    Apostrophe is a prescription skincare company that offers science-backed oral and topical medications that are clinically proven to help clear acne.  To get started, just go to Apostrophe.com/TCS and click Begin Visit, then use our code TCS at sign up and you’ll get your first visit for only five dollars!    Microdose Gummies - Go to microdose.com and use code TCS for 30% off your first order of THC gummies.

Left to Die | Lacey Fletcher & Valerie Wallach

Left to Die | Lacey Fletcher & Valerie Wallach

Lacey Fletcher’s childhood, growing up in Slaughter, Louisiana seemed to be fairly normal.  She played volleyball and had a close group of friends.  There are public photos of a smiling Lacey taken from her yearbook and neighbors recall interacting with her and seeing her regularly out exercising. When Lacey reached the age of 14, something happened.  Her parents withdrew her from school and allegedly began to home school her.  They have said that she was diagnosed with autism and her condition became more severe around this time. Nobody saw Lacey in public for over a decade.  Her mother Sheila called 911 in January 2022 to report that Lacey was unresponsive on the couch.  When authorities arrived, they were met with the most horrific scene they had ever encountered. 'I have been a sheriff for six years, and I have had a lot of things happen here in East Feliciana Parish, but this type of scene, this is by far the worst,' Sheriff Jeffery Travis said.  Lacey had essentially been left to rot and die on the couch in her home.  Her mother has said she refused to get up to use the bathroom, so she lay in her own excrement for years.  The details of Lacey’s sad death are so horrific that medical staff were on hand to treat jurors after they saw photos of the scene.  In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the deaths of Lacey Fletcher and Valerie Wallach.  Both women were left to die in agony in their own homes. Prison Escape | Vicky & Casey White

Prison Escape | Vicky & Casey White

On April 29, 2022, Vicky White made a decision that would alter the course of her life.  Nothing would ever be the same. Early that morning, Vicky put a long-thought out plan into motion.  She was ready.  She told her colleagues at the Lauderdale County Detention Center that she was transporting inmate Casey Cole White to a mental health evaluation.  She broke all protocol and escorted the inmate alone – she had her excuses for doing so ready and nobody questioned her.  She also told her workplace that she had a medical appointment that day and that she would likely not return to work. There were no appointments – either for Vicky or Casey.  The corrections officer and the inmate had been carrying on an illicit affair for two years.  The two went on the run, through many states.  They had $90k cash to fund their escapade.  Police always seemed to be one step behind them. Until May 9.  Vicky and Casey were spotted leaving a budget motel in Evansville, Indiana and a police chase ensued.  Their car crashed and Vicky took her own life before she could be apprehended.  Casey was taken back into custody. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss the ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ style case of Vicky White and Casey Cole White. Wrongful Conviction? | Melissa Lucio

Wrongful Conviction? | Melissa Lucio

You may have seen media articles recently about Melissa Lucio – the first ever Hispanic woman to be sentenced to death in Texas.  Melissa was due to be executed in April 2022 and she was granted a stay of execution just days before her scheduled death. Melissa is a mother of 14 children.  She was convicted of murdering her 2 year-old daughter Mariah in 2007.  Mariah was found unresponsive after an alleged fall down stairs.  An autopsy was conducted and at the time, it was determined that Mariah died from blunt force trauma.  She also had bruising of the kidneys, lungs and spinal cord.  When Melissa was taken in for questioning, she was interrogated for hours, without proper legal representation.  She was not offered food or water.  She denied over 100 times that she caused Mariah’s death.  Eventually, Melissa broke down and ‘confessed’ to Mariah’s murder.  “I don’t know what you want me to say,” she told authorities. “I’m responsible for it … I guess I did it.” Over the years, Melissa’s team have made many appeals in her case.  She also has high-profile supporters such as the Innocence Project and Kim Kardashian.   Melissa’s case will now be re-examined to determine if she is eligible for a new trial.   In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss the death of Mariah Alvarez and the conviction of her mother Melissa Lucio. You can read the blog for this case here – https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2022/05/11/wrongful-conviction-melissa-lucio/ Do you believe that Melissa should be executed for this crime? Ride-sharing Gone Wrong

Ride-sharing Gone Wrong

According to an article by theverge.com, around 21 percent of Lyft drivers and 27 percent of Uber drivers in the US are women.  With the increase in rideshare options comes an increase in risk for female passengers and female drivers. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast we discuss the cases of four different women who have either been murdered or are missing.  The one commonality for these cases is that the women would likely be here today if it wasn’t for accepting or offering a rideshare lift. Christina Spicuzza accepted an Uber fare in February 2022.  Horrifyingly, the rider was never looking for a lift – he was out to rob and kill her.  There is terrifying dashcam footage of Christi in the moments before her murder.  Her body was found days after she vanished – she was still wearing her protective face mask when she was discovered. Ella Goodie accepted a Lyft job in March 2022.  The ride was to take her from Louisiana to Texas, a 7 hour round trip.  Ella never made it home to her teenage daughters.  She is still missing and her case has been classified as a homicide. Felicia Johnson travelled from her home in California to Houston, Texas in April 2022.  Some reports say that she went to a club to look for work.  After that, she was reportedly waiting for an Uber outside and it was delayed.  She accepted a lift with an unidentified man and has not been seen since.  Her phone was found abandoned and covered in blood. Samantha Josephson decided to finish up her night out with friends in March 2019, and she called an Uber.  A car pulled up and she got in.  She mistook this vehicle for her Uber and this mistake ended her life.  Samantha was stabbed over 120 times by her driver.  The judge in this case called Samantha’s murder the ‘most severe’  that he had seen before. Murder | Orsolya Gaal

Murder | Orsolya Gaal

On Friday, April 15, 2022, Orsolya Gaal (51) went to see a show with friends and she stopped a bar in her neighborhood before returning to her home in Queens, New York.   Orsolya would never be seen alive by her husband and two sons again.  Orsolya was stabbed around 60 times and her carotid artery and trachea were punctured.  Her body was shoved into a large bag by her murderer.  Police released eerie CCTV footage of a male figure walking away from Orsolya’s house, wheeling her body in the bag.  The murderer got less than a mile before he dumped the bag and ran.   Orsolya’s body was discovered just hours later by a dog walker.  Orsolya had been having a secret affair with her handyman, David Bonola, for years.  On the night she died, she allegedly told David that their relationship was over.  He was not happy.  On April 20, he walked up to detectives investigating this case and said ‘I hear you are looking for me.’  David confessed to Orsolya’s brutal murder and is now in custody. Join us for this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast as we discuss the murder of Orsolya Gaal. In this episode, we also discuss the discovery of a young child’s body stuffed in a suitcase in Washington County, Indiana earlier this month.  Police believe the boy was around 5 years old when he died.  Nobody has yet come forward to claim him.   You can read our blog for Orsolya’s case here https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2022/04/17/orsolya-gaal-murdered-and-shoved-in-a-duffel-bag/ Read more about the boy in the suitcase here - https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2022/04/26/the-sad-case-of-the-boy-in-the-suitcase-sellersburg-indiana/ This episode is sponsored by:  Thuma - Create that feeling of checking in to your favorite boutique hotel suite, but at home, with The Bed, by Thuma. Murder or Self Defense? | Influencer Courtney Tailor & Christian Obumseli

Police in Miami received a 911 call on April 3, 2022.  The female caller said there had been an altercation and that a man had been stabbed to death. This is the story of influencer Courtney Tailor and her boyfriend Toby Obumseli. Courtney has over 2 million Instagram followers and according to social media, she seemed to be living a high-flying life.  She lived with Toby in a luxury condo in Miami and things seemed to be going well for the couple. But their reality was very different.  Sources now say that the couple were in a toxic relationship and were abusive to each other.  They had apparently split up in the weeks before this incident, but Toby would allegedly find his way into the apartment complex and would sleep in common areas, waiting for Courtney. It is still unclear what happened on April 3, but Toby died after he was stabbed in the shoulder.  Courtney is claiming self-defence, but Toby’s family are adamant that he was not the aggressor.
