Iris Disse

“Iris Disse is a German theatre director, award-winning radio artist, author and founder of Durga’s Tiger School, whose work unfolds between Berlin and Ecuador.

Her podcasts, audio documentaries and radio plays invite listeners on extraordinary journeys. Each work is a crystallisation point in the flow of her life.

She travels with the Shipibo shaman Elisa through mystical worlds, follows the trail of the women pirates of the Caribbean, encounters La Santísima Muerte in Mexico as a compassionate companion of the poor and the outcast, and traces the lives of Indigenous women and men in Peru, Ecuador, Panama and Mexico who step beyond the role of victimhood and reveal their power to help shape a more just world.

Every production is created in collaboration with musicians, actors and sound artists. Giving courageous people a public voice and creating as a team are at the heart of her work. Mystery, love, freedom and transformation run through all of her audio stories, carried by voices, music and sound.
