By nighttime, we are terrible at processing food.  [37:10] What You Need To Know About Fasting and Cancer  When you fast, your cells reject external inputs.  During a fast, your healthy cells are protecting themselves.  Fasting during chemo treatment results in less nausea, less vomiting, fewer headaches, and less fatigue.  You can increase the dose of chemotherapy when the patient can tolerate it better.  Overall, you can give more chemo, kill cancer, and hurt the patient less during a fast.  [42:20] What Can Fasting Do For High Blood Pressure?  The American Heart Association says that high blood pressure cannot be cured. However, studies show that prolonged water fasting can reverse high blood pressure. In 10 days of water fasting, 80% of high blood pressure patients can achieve normal blood pressure and get off their medications.  People with the worst blood pressure had the best outcomes from water fasting.  [47:35] Productivity or Lack of Energy: Potential Side Effects During A Longer Fast  Many people find difficulty with long fasts when they are unhealthy. Fasting can result in skin rashes, nausea, headaches, and fatigue.  During a fast, you can become more contemplative or more productive.  Overall, there are many good and bad side effects that happen. Intuitive eating is a great way to see how your body responds to plants.  When introducing a plant, consume it on an empty stomach to see how you respond.  [32:30] Will Mushrooms and Coffee Break Your Fast?  If you want to do a pure fast, you’re giving your liver a complete break. If that’s the case, you shouldn’t consume mushrooms.  If you’re still processing coffee and green tea, mushrooms wouldn’t break your fast. Mushrooms won’t spike your insulin if you’re just doing a water fast, but it’s technically breaking your fast since it is not water.  Mushrooms are one more thing that your body must digest even though it doesn’t contain calories. [41:00] The Best Mushrooms For Deeper Sleep and Improved Mood  Mushrooms and adaptogens will impact the mind. If you’re in a good mood, you will sleep better. Reishi mushrooms are great for sleep. Your entire body, including the mitochondria, is driven off of minerals and amino acids. When you are mineral depleted, it's like the light is dimmed. The worst part of Richard’s health was his anxiety; he wouldn’t be able to leave his house, car, or office. Richard never felt good enough to be around other people. Eventually, Richard realized that bread made his belly swell. So, he gave it up. Within 30 days of ditching bread, Richard lost 28 pounds. Starting keto has completely changed Richard’s life; luckily, every factor of his life has improved. [26:20] Cholesterol Isn’t The Enemy; In Fact, Cholesterol is Essential For Health Cholesterol is essential for life. It's imperative for cell formation, cell communication, nutrient absorption, nutrient transportation, and hormone production. The brain and the myelin sheath are made of cholesterol. Lacking cholesterol would be detrimental to your health. There is a massive miscommunication when it comes to cholesterol. LDL is proactive; it heals the body and repairs it. The two main contributing factors to heart disease are grains and seed oils. Seed oils do not help lower cholesterol. Reducing carbohydrates and seed oils is the best way to have healthy LDL. [35:00] Is Your Cholesterol Profile Damaged? Richard Explains Where Your Markers Should Be There’s a simple way to see whether your cholesterol profile is damaged. Triglycerides are one of the most significant factors; aim for less than 0.5%. HDL should be greater than 1.5. The triglyceride to HDL ratio should be below one. You’re in good shape if your cholesterol profile is around these markers. Remember, cholesterol is essential for life; every cell in the body is made of cholesterol. [39:45] You Can’t Store Fat Without Insulin From Carbohydrates, Sugars, and Seed Oils We can’t store fat without insulin. Insulin is secreted by the pancreas when we consume carbohydrates. Many people will eat carbs before going to the gym to have the energy to burn fat. However, when insulin is elevated, it tells the body to store fat. Eating carbs will make it almost impossible for us to burn fat for fuel. Insulin puts a biological lock on our fat stores and prevents them from leaving. Carbohydrates and sugars will increase insulin. Seed oils will also impact insulin; they cause insulin resistance. [42:40] The Foods You Eat Could Be Blocking Your Ability To Feel Full Leptin is a satiety hormone. It tells us that we have eaten and that we are full. Seed oils will block leptin. If you aren’t feeling full, you will consume more food. Grains are high in lectins; they cause five times more fat storage than insulin. Lectins in grains will also block leptin. [49:55] Richard Reveals A Simple Test To Tell If You’re Insulin Resistant As a world, we are insulin resistant. In fact, 95% of people are insulin resistant. Diabetes will start with food choices that began ten to fifteen years prior. There’s a simple way to test if you suffer from insulin resistance. You have insulin resistance if you have an overhang over your pants, belt, or skirt. Restrict carbohydrates, and you will see a reduction in insulin levels.
