The Case of Marion Jester Montoya
This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Lubbock, Texas, to discuss the case of Marion Jester Montoya, a sweet little girl who had the misfortune of being born to a mother, Veronica Weems, who didn't have her best interests at heart. After cheating on Marion's father, Emilio, with his friend, Trevor Rowe, the new "couple" move in together. Although Emilio made several reports to CPS about his daughter's welfare, they simply didn't listen - much like in many of the cases we cover. Things came to a head on January 7th, 2020, when Marion's mother didn't want the burden of watching her daughter. Instead, Trevor stuffed Marion into a backpack and brought her with him to his roofing job. She was later stuffed into the trunk of his car, where she later died. The Case of Devon and Damon Routier
This week, Drewby and Yergy head back down to Texas to discuss the Lonestar State's more notorious whodunnit, and that's the murder of Devon and Damon Routier. The boys lived in Rowlett, and affluent suburb of Dallas, with their parents, Darin and Darlie, and their younger brother, Drake. The family seemed to have everything, but underneath the façade, things had started to crumble financially, leading to tension in the home. On June 6, 1996, and intruder allegedly broke into the Routier home and stabbed Devon and Damon, killing them. Their mother, Darlie, was also injured during the attack. After leaving Hawai'i, Zachary's mother, Jessica Analani Dutro, took her kids to Oregon where she met and started a relationship with a man named Brian Cody Canady, with whom she'd have a child. But things were not well in the Dutro/Canady household. The family was in and out of homeless shelters, and Jessica was a strict disciplinarian, running her household like an army. The Case of Alex Woodworth
This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to discuss the case of Alexander Lehman Sidney Woodworth, known as Alex to his family and friends. Alex was an intelligent young man with a bright future. He graduated from Osceola High School in 2012 with excellent grades and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in philosophy and biology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2017. When he wasn't studying, Alex worked as a barista at Racy D'Lenes Coffee Lounge in downtown Eau Claire, and as a tutor on his college campus. He also taught a few philosophy classes at a local high school. Alex aspired to become a philosophy professor at the University of Oregon and had received an offer to study a masters in philosophy at the college. Alex did have a bright future ahead of him until he met Ezra McCandless in 2017. Ezra and her boyfriend, Jason, were regulars at Racy D'Lenes Coffee Lounge. Alex and Ezra grew close, and soon, engaged in an affair while Jason was away for two weeks taking part in military training. During this time, Ezra also had an affair with Jason's best friend, John Hansen. Shortly after, she called Jason and claimed John had assaulted her while she was drunk. Ezra continued her infidelity even after Jason's return from the military. However, he soon discovered her secret relationship with Alex. According to reports, Alex had a big heart and was manipulated by Ezra into keeping quiet about their affair. As a result, Jason subsequently ended his relationship with Ezra. Allegedly, she "had fire in her eyes" and was furious with Alex, who she believed had caused the breakup by telling Jason about their secret relationship. Around the same time, Alex was interviewed by police and told them Ezra said she willingly had an intimate affair with John. His statement caused the police to drop her case, which only intensified the anger Ezra felt toward Alex. In a desperate attempt to win Jason back, Ezra claimed that the, as she described them, “manipulative and vindictive men in her life” had tried to take her away from him, and that their influence was the reason she had cheated, not her own actions. Jason, unconvinced, kicked Ezra out of his apartment, and she moved back home to live with her family. On March 22, 2018, Ezra surprised her ex-boyfriend Jason by showing up unexpectedly at Racy's. Despite having sent Jason over 600 text messages the night before, she claimed she had not come to see him but to show Alex some journal entries she had written. In reality, she hoped to manipulate Alex into admitting he had lied about their affair, so Jason would consider taking her back. Ezra was recorded on the coffee shop's security camera, visibly agitated, after her plan to win Jason back failed. Alex had left work and headed back to his home. However, little Jessica's idyllic life in the Sunshine State was rocked in the wee morning hours of February 24th, 2005, when her neighbor, 49-year-old sex offender, John Couey, who broke into her family home while drunk and high on crack. John lured the girl from her bed and to his sister's trailer that sat just 65 feet away. There, Jessica was sexually assaulted, exposed to cocaine, and held captive for days inside John's bedroom closet. The Case of Christian Gomez & Maria Pia Suarez-Cassagne
This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Florida to discuss the tragic case of 48-year-old Maria Pia Suarez-Cassagne, a mother of 3 who was just trying to enjoy a nice New Years Eve dinner with her children: Mario Andres, Maria Jose (Mary Jo), and Christian. 23-year-old Christian was a complicated young man who claimed to talk to God. Christian often refused to take his medication - claiming that Maria Pia was trying to poison him - and would have violent spells that caused his own mother to sleep with a knife under her pillow. December 31st, 2014 should have been like any normal New Years Eve... but it wasn't. That evening, Christian snapped after his mother asked for help moving boxes of Christmas decorations back up to the attic. But instead of helping her out, Christian decapitated his 48-year-old mother with an axe in the family garage. To add insult to injury, he threw her head away into the garbage.
