Andy Roddick Interview – Enjoying Retirement, 10 Years Since That 2009 Wimbledon Final, The Real Serena, GOAT Debate, Davis Cup Reform, His Future In Tennis

Unlike many former players, Andy Roddick has stepped away from tennis since his retirement in 2012, occupying his life with various other ventures. But he’s still as passionate and as insightful about the game as ever.

In an interview with David Law, Roddick explains what keeps him busy these days, the reasons behind his absence from tennis, and why the door will always remain open for him to return one day.

Elsewhere, David gets Roddick’s views on a number of topical issues within the sport, including Novak Djokovic’s chances of becoming the GOAT, ATP Politics, and Davis Cup reform.

Roddick also gives a fascinating insight into the Serena Williams he knows. What is she like away from the court? Will she ever address what happened in last year’s US Open final? And will she break the Grand Slam record?

Finally, it’s been almost ten years since Roddick’s most famous match – the 2009 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer which he lost 16-14 in the final set. Does he think that serving second in the fifth set was a disadvantage? And would he have liked a tiebreak at 12-12? Roddick looks back on the match and discusses the different final set scoring systems currently in use at the four Grand Slams.

The Tennis Podcast will be produced weekly throughout 2019 and daily at the Grand Slams after our listeners successfully funded our Kickstarter. It is produced in association with The Telegraph.
