How do you talk and support people with fat loss?

How do you talk and support people with fat loss?

Whether we are commenting on someone else's weight loss, on your own weight loss journey or want to support your kids to loose a little weight, the language we choose makes a big difference to their experience in the short term and long term.

It's complex, it's confusing but I feel this conversation needs to be shared. To give a different view point. To air some of the feelings clients share with me on a regular basis.

It's important to remember that weight loss is not a goal for everyone. Weight loss is not always a sign of success either, it might be the by-product of something negative. So by praising the unplanned outcome, you may have a negative impact on their long term success to achieving what the do want. What seems like a nice thing to say in the moment can be doing long term damage to their or your self esteem, relationship with food and relationship with their bodies.
