Tandem Nursing: Meeting the Needs of a Baby and an Older Child at the Breast

Sarah and Maria chat with a group of mums who are nursing,or have nursed, both a baby and an older toddler or child. This is often referred to as tandem nursing.

Together, we explore the journey – from breastfeeding duringpregnancy to juggling the needs of babies, toddlers, and older children at the breast.

We talk about the highs and lows, as well as the benefits and challenges along the way. We hear our guests’ insights on the following themes:

how tandem nursing began and evolved over time
how it felt to nurse two or more children and how they coped with the realities of it

what impact it had on their family – and, looking back, what they had gained from the experience.

A holistic model of support offered by LLL is discussed and the listeners are encouraged to reach out to LLLGB if breastfeeding support and information is needed.

LLLGB is a charity that offers mother to mother and parent to parent support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding.

The charity was founded by seven mothers in 1956 and since then has accumulated a wealth of knowledge that is now supported by the latest scientific evidence and research.
