Story: Zippy the Zooming Zebra

Zippy the Zebra was not your average stripey grass-muncher. While most zebras grazed gently on the plains of Zambonia, Zippy had one speed: TOO FAST. His hooves made dust clouds, his tail spun like a propeller, and his favorite word was “ZOOOOOOM!”

“Zippy, slow down!” shouted Mama Zebra as he raced through breakfast, accidentally launching a pancake into the neighbor’s nest. “Zippy, wait up!” yelled his friends, who were still putting on their backpacks while he was already halfway to school.

One day, the Savannah School announced the Great Animal Games—a big race across the savanna with obstacles like banana-peel bends, muddy puddle ponds, and leafy leap logs. “Winner gets the Golden Gourd of Glory!” boomed Principal Parrot.

“YES!” shouted Zippy. “I was born for this!”

He lined up next to Cora the Cheetah, Tito the Tortoise, and Ellie the Elephant, bouncing with excitement.

BANG! went the starting drum.

Zippy took off like a rocket. He zoomed past logs, splashed through mud, and didn't even notice when he passed the snack stand that had mango smoothies.

But then… trouble. He turned a corner too fast and WHAM! slipped on a banana peel. He tried to hop a log but SPLAT! belly-flopped into the puddle. By the time he rolled out of the mud, the other racers had caught up—especially Tito the Tortoise, who was humming a tune and munching a celery stick.

“Zippy,” said Tito, “it’s not just about speed. It’s about strategy. Wanna run together?”

Zippy blinked. “You want me—the zoomiest zebra in Zambonia—to go slow?”

Tito grinned. “Just trust me.”

So Zippy did. He matched Tito’s pace, listened to tips like “tuck your tail on the log jumps” and “banana peels are not snacks,” and together, they crossed the finish line at the same time.

The crowd cheered. Principal Parrot flapped down and handed them the Golden Gourd. “You both win! Zippy for learning, and Tito for leading!”

Zippy beamed, holding the gourd with pride. “Today I learned: fast is fun... but smart and steady is how you really finish strong!”

Then he zoomed away—carefully.
