After I came to Singapore, I was very surprised by how sweet the drinks were.

But isn’t coffee in Singapore a little too sweet?

In Japan, many people try to have less sugar for their health.

This is especially true when they want to lose a little weight or take care of their body.

At those times, I think many people first try to reduce sugar.

Some people do not put sugar in coffee or tea.

Some people drink it with only milk.

Some people drink it without adding anything.

I also add milk, but I usually do not add sugar.

I have always liked it better without sugar.

In Japan, drinking coffee without sugar is common, so sugar-free coffee is often sold in convenience stores.

Of course, there is also coffee that is only a little sweet.

But in Singapore, it feels different.

Bottled coffee in convenience stores and supermarkets is almost always sweet.

Tea also has sugar in it.

This really surprised me.

Also, when I buy coffee at a coffee shop, it comes with sugar from the beginning.

When I order coffee without saying anything, sweet coffee comes.

When I do not want sugar, I have to say, “No sugar, please.”

At first, I did not know this, so I was surprised.

I took one sip and thought, “Oh, this is sweet.”

It was good, but I thought it would be a bit too much every day.

At local shops, I slowly learnt how to say “no sugar”.

Another surprising thing is when I choose the sweetness by number at shops.

25 percent, 50 percent, 100 percent.

Is it okay to put in that much?

But I thought this was interesting.

In Singapore, I felt that sweet drinks were more a part of daily life.

Of course, it depends on the person.

Some Japanese people like sweet things.

Some Singaporean people do not put in sugar.

What do you think?
