Taking Hardwood Forward: Talking Wood Flooring Innovation & Design Trends with AHF Products' Milton Goodwin & Tim Ryan, Part 1

In Part 1 of this ATWF takeover episode, Stephen Diggins talks with AHF Products’ Milton Goodwin and Tim Ryan about the company’s latest innovations in solid and engineered hardwood flooring. They explain the evolution of Bruce Natural Choice, a 5/16-inch solid hardwood product now offered in wider 3 1/4-inch widths and made from Appalachian lumber. The thinner, more flexible construction—combined with Bruce Summit Select 100% RH adhesive—allows the flooring to be installed over concrete slabs, opening up new possibilities in markets where solid hardwood traditionally has been more challenging to install. Goodwin and Ryan explain how testing, wood-drying technology and advances in adhesives came together to address installation challenges while maintaining the look and feel of a traditional solid hardwood floor.

The episode also explores AHF’s updated Bruce Dundee line, including new low-gloss options and a refreshed color palette, as well as the company’s growing unfinished solid and engineered flooring offerings. They discuss changing consumer preferences around gloss, texture and color, advances in prefinished flooring technology, and the different roles solid and engineered wood can play depending on the application. They emphasize that flooring choices should be based on the project, desired performance, design and environment—not on the idea that one type of wood flooring is always better than another.
