Gospel Freedom | Gal 5:1-11

Gospel Freedom | Gal 5:1-11

What does it mean to be truly free?

The gospel tells us that Jesus Christ has done everything necessary to make us right with God. We don't have to earn God's acceptance, prove ourselves through religious performance, or live under the crushing burden of trying to be good enough.

Christ has set us free.

But in Galatians 5:1–11, Paul warns that it is surprisingly easy to lose sight of that freedom. The Galatians were being tempted to add religious rules and human effort to the finished work of Jesus. Paul's response is passionate and uncompromising: if we add anything to Christ as the basis of our acceptance with God, we lose the very heart of the gospel.

In this message, Gospel Freedom, we explore what it means to stand firm in the freedom Christ has won for us. We will see the danger of legalism, the sufficiency of Jesus, and why genuine Christian freedom isn't freedom to live however we want—it's freedom to live from God's acceptance rather than constantly striving for it.

The Christian life is not Jesus plus our performance.

It is Jesus + nothing = everything.
