Sexual Trauma, Unfaithfulness, Shame & Jesus | Cecily Lachapelle

Some stories are hard to tell because of what was done tous. Others are hard to tell because of what we did ourselves. Cecily’s storycarries both.

In this conversation, we talk about sexual assault,adultery, shame, guilt, repentance, church hurt, and the parts of healing that are not neat or quick. Cecily shares with so much honesty about the shame she carried after being violated, and also the shame she carried after making choices she deeply regretted.

What i love about her story is that she does not excuse what happened to her, and she does not excuse what she did either. She brings both into the light.

And that is where Jesus met her.

We talk about what it feels like to believe you are dirtybecause of what someone did to you, or unforgivable because of what you did. We talk about trying to earn back God’s love, about the church sometimes rushing people through healing, and about learning that repentance and grace can exist in the same story.

This one is for anyone who has ever thought, if people really knew everything about me, they would see me differently.

Jesus already knows.

And He is still not done with you.

Cecily’s story is such a beautiful reminder that shame maybe loud, consequences may be real, and healing may take longer than we want—but none of those things are stronger than the cross.
