"Division among the people of God is never a small matter. In 2 Samuel 2:12–32, the division between David and Ish-bosheth erupts into bloodshed as Israelites turn their swords against their own brothers.

This passage gives us a sobering picture of the destructive effects of schism. It also raises important questions for the church today: What makes a division schismatic? How should Christians balance unity and truth? When are doctrinal differences serious enough to warrant separation?

Yet the Bible does more than warn us about division. It points us to Jesus Christ, the greater Son of David, who came to gather the divided people of God under one King. Christ died to make His church one, and His people are therefore called to pursue visible unity grounded firmly in the truth.
