Anna Kepner Case: What Shauntel Asked a Judge to Change

Anna Kepner’s case is heading toward a federal trial while the family around Timothy Hudson is still fighting in a separate courtroom. Shauntel Hudson is Timothy’s mother and Anna’s stepmother. She has asked a judge to enforce and recalculate child support against her ex-husband, Thomas Hudson.

Shauntel’s filing says the support order started at $2,129 per month for three children and later dropped as fewer children remained covered. She says Thomas failed to pay for several months and argues the current amount should be revisited because she believes his earnings are higher. Thomas disputes both points, and the child-support petition is still pending.

A federal filing explains why this family dispute carries more weight than an ordinary support argument. Timothy’s defense says it cannot finish important preparation because access to certain relatives has been limited. His lawyers are gathering information for a Miller hearing, a proceeding that requires a judge to examine a juvenile defendant’s background before life without parole can be imposed. The defense compared that work to the detailed personal-history investigation used in the sentencing phase of a capital case.

Judge Beth Bloom granted the defense request for additional time after prosecutors did not object. The trial is scheduled for November 2, 2026, and any plea agreement is due by October 23. Timothy, who was 16 when Anna died, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a second serious federal charge.

The defense says family access matters to its preparation. The civil docket shows the same family arguing over payments and past parenting arrangements while Timothy remains in federal custody. By November, those separate fights may collide in one practical question: who will give the defense the history it says the federal judge may need?
